Chipped Xbox Suddenly Stopped Working!
« on: February 17, 2005, 10:22:00 AM »

I chipped my xbox 5 months ago and it worked perfectly ever since, Then i turned it on the other day and it wouldn't start at all. I've reflashed with the latest version of Evox but it won't start, I can boot with Linux or Cromwell but i get the message "unable to find first sector" I've flashed and reflased the chip a few times and even tried a different Hard Drive!! any help will be much appreciated

Which chip do you have in your Xbox the X-Chip or X-Lite.

Since you state that chip is installed for 5 months I assume its the X-Chip.

How about if you remove the X-Chip from the Xbox does the Xbox boot normally.

Can you load harddriev via cd if so, try ing using slayers and restore reatil drive and see if it boots.

ALso, may need to look at IDE cable on harddrive.

Are you getting any flashing when trying without modhcip on power button?  If so what colors, also was this a solder install or solderless.

Um, can't find first sector?  Doesn't that usually mean it's a hard drive error, ie. your hardrive has a bad sector?  Would make sense to me, I'd try putting in another drive and put  an msdash/evox dash, then try again..

I am having the same problem as conehead.

I have swapped the ide cable but nothing changes. I have swapped my 120gb harddrive back to the original xbox harddrive, and still the abox will not boot.

When I load the complex debug bios into my x-chip I can boot from an evolution x boot disc butI am unable to ftp into the box.

I am stumped at this point.

Ok, whe you try to boot with the original bios(chip removed, or disabled) what does it boot to?  Do you get the multilanguage error with a 2 digit error code in the top left corner?  If so what is the error code?  Or, are you just getting black screen with the eject light flashing diferent colors?  If so what colors?

Sorry for taking so long to get back to this.

When I uninstall the mod chip and replace the original hd all I get is a blank screen with a red flashing eject button.

What version xbox is it?

also the FLASHING RED means: Dead, broken or empty eeprom. Possible corrupted as well.

If you made a backup of your eeprom with the XChip, you can connect Xchip to Xbox and press and hold the button on the programmer for 5 seconds while powering up, this will rewrite the stored eeprom back to the xbox.

If not i beleive you can embed and write a new flash with added eeprom to XChip using the utility included with Evox 1.3 using yoiur PC and USB cable and boot up with same procedure listed above after programmed.

Its a v1.0 box.

Unfortunately I lost my eeprom back up. If I was to purchase a new eeprom woud this solve my problem. I dont believe that I locked my hd but if I did, is it now completly useless?

Are a new eeprom and new hd call for?

I would copy or use someones banned eeprom( most like get one for free ) just to see if you get video etc, if harddrive locked you maybe screwed at accessing it...but i'm sure you could extract keys off eeporm chip still on system if it has not been rewritten

I think I have to accept the fact that my Xbox is dead!

I got a friends eeprom and his unlocked retail drive with evolution x on it. Put both into my box and all I get is an  error 21 message. Im giving up at this stage.
