Last Resort Before Retuning X-chip 4 A New One
« on: January 15, 2005, 02:11:00 AM »

O.k. First off thanks to those of you who are offering your help trying to get this issue solved for me.

Here's the background and pertinent (sp?) information;

I have a X-Box V1.6.
I successfully rebuilt the LPC, soldered the DO wire to the ALT. location on the back of the board, and correctly soldered the 5V power wire.
All solder work has been check by 2 different people besides myself, ohm check by all three of us, and check with a magnifying (sp?) glass for cross hardwire channels on the board itself. Entire solder surface has been cleaned with denatured alchol and any and all loose wire/debree has been removed. Its basically a near perfect solder besides the fact that I slightly melted the tip of one of the pin headers, which doesn't affect the circuit in any way.
Entire pin header has been soldered besides the #4 & #6 pins which have been removed as per included .pdf manual.
The "nickle" trick has been done and while it did secure the chip down signficantly (sp?) more, it hasn't solved my FRAG issues.

So I'm 100% certain its nothing to do with the solder job, this only leaves the bios as the cause of the FRAG issue.

I've tried the latest Cromell from EB2K site. Still FRAG
I've installed Evox V1.3 "xchip_v1.3-1.6box_only.bin" Still FRAG
I've installed EvolutionX M8 "m8_16.bin" Still FRAG
I've installed EvolutionX M8Plus "M8plus_16.bin" Still FRAG
I've installed Yoshihiro-m8-1.6B-Memory-Fixe-Beta4 "Yoshihiro-m8-1.6B-Memory-Fixe-Beta4.bin" Still FRAG

I've also reassembled the Linker Cable (My plastic upper snag ring broke, leaving the 5 wires with no securement to the USB Dongle. (It turns out that the wires are run in reverse order from the X-Chip.
Example Wire #'s out of X-Chip 1.2.3.4.5. Wire #'s into USB Dongle 5.4.3.2.1.  )

So what is there left to do? I would like to get this fixed so I can start on my other projects, and I hate leaving things undone......

Any help would be appreciated, and thanks for reading this long ass post.   :boring:

am i correct in assuming from your other posts that the system boots ok without the chip. i say you should return the chip and get that new one.

The system never booted, and I didn't want to de-solder the entire board to see if it booted normal. I knew it would work, just had to figure it out.

I got it working now (powered via USB at the moment) so I'm almost done troubleshooting this problem and will post what I've done to resolve the problem along with some pics of my re-routing of one of the LPC re-wires. But I'm waiting for a buddy's zoom lens so they will be clear pic's.
But thanks for the reply  biggrin.gif
