How To Boot Originals With Clock Problem
« on: July 14, 2003, 02:57:00 PM »

Unfortunetly I don't see how this could fix the problem of the time loop. Evox automatically gets the time for a timeserver on the internet anyways so whats the point of making your pc the timeserver? But the xbox doesn't give it enough time so it tries to launch the msdash so you can set the time and this continues over and over....

Putting the network cable in the XBox, gets past the loop. Then using the directions I gave, will fix the time. This will allow you to reboot the xbox without getting in the loop, until you unplug the Xbox for good amount of time; in which you will lose the time again.

Jess,

What? You don't make any sense. The xbox only loses the time if you leave it unplugged for like 5+ hours dood. Most people just leave theres plugged in and the only problem is the people that don't! So they are stuck in the loop and what you did is useless to it!

I think your a lil confused on the problem and why it's happening.

This is not a perm work around for the clock problem, I understand that. But, once someone unplugs it for say 5 hours and kills the clock, he will be stuck in a loop and unable to boot anything. Even if he can get to the EVox menu, you still can't boot orig games, only backups that have been signed using XBEDUMP.

All my guide was showing, is a way to correct the clock and be able to play orig games again. If the system is unplugged for 5 hours, you will have to do this all over again.

Or, if you're able to FTP into your XBox:

1) Restore your back ups
2) Reboot XBox
3) Fix time
4) Boot 007 and re-apply exploit

Well infact he is right. Pluggin in an ethernet cable is one of
the ways to slow parts of the dashboard down so that the
reset loop is not happening for those people with strange
boxes.

Hollywood is right... if you can ftp into the xbox whats the point in going to such hassle to upload the xwatch when you can just restore the old xbox dashboard..

also, most people cant even get to Evox to allow ftp in the first place, so basically your methods kind of flawed..

Well guys you do not understand that the interesting
thing in this thread is not how to set the clock, but the
idea to plug in an ethernet cable and so circumvent the
reset loop.

A few things:
1.  If you can boot to evox, use my modified xbox dash to set the clock.  You don't need a net program or even a cable.
2.  EvoX has it's own time capabilities.  It automatically sets the clock once it boots, and can sync with a computer assuming you set the IP right.
3.  Once the loop ends the xbox will work fine with the wrong clock setting.
4.  Plugging in a crossover cable will NOT fix the loop.

So basically the two best fixes for the clock loop are luck and time.  Unless you are smart and load B&E reloaded.

If someone is stuck in the loop, plugging in a network cable and connecting it to a PC will get around it. I've done this on a number of machines now, they will loop for 30 minutes, then I plug the cable in, two seconds later, it's in.

"Once the loop ends the xbox will work fine with the wrong clock setting." -- This is incorrect, you will not be able to boot original cds until the clock is reset.

I've been trying the steps above, and I've not gotten anywhere.

I've inserted the ethernet cable, and nothing.
I've let it sit for 30 minutes, and nothing.

My xbox just keeps resetting.

Should I have a game in the drive?

Also, could you describe what happened when it came out of the loop?  Does it go to evox, or does it just sit there?

Thanks a ton!

Does it have to be a crossover cable and connected to a PC? Using a regular ethernet cable plugged into my router isn't doing it....

a normal straight cable to router will do it...

heres the required setup

PC->crossover->Xbox

PC->straight->HUB/ROUTER->straight->XBOX

straight indicates regular cable***

it took mine like 8 hours to find the correct time (which was around 24 hours after the time i unplugged it) but it finally fixed itself, i had a DVD movie in the drive, and a cable connected to my router, then to my PC and just let it boot endlessly and i checked on it like a day later and voila. magic,
