What Have I Done Wrong?
« on: December 23, 2004, 09:37:00 PM »

Unit was my nephews, I bought him a new one and kept his old one to try some modding. Seems he had it and it started to give him trouble (Error 16 I think)

So, I decided to buy an X-chip and go from there.

I have just gotten in my xchip and have it all installed little red light lights up, I can get to the features of the chip to see my bios packets, lock/unlock the HD, all that.

These are the Bios I have tried so far:  Xecuter X2,  xchip_v1.3.bin, EvoXD6EjectFix.bin.
No Luck on anything.
I have the slayers 2.6 final, I can boot to that. So I booted to that and performed a "Rebuild to Original factory settings" I wasn't worried about any saves. I completed that and booted with the original M$ bios that is on the x-chip, nothing Error 21 now.

I understand that this(Error16) is a clock problem and need to get back to the original M$ dash to fix the clock settings then I can 'Maybe' move on from there.

Someone please help me, I will do what is told to me.  If there is someone in Florida I can bring this to, I will pay you for your time to get it running again for me with the mod chip in.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Xbox Version 1.0
Retail HD, DVD.
I have the slayers 2.6 final, Evox1.3, cromwell, and a full.bin file that 4MB?? not sure how I got this.

ok I think I have an understanding on your situation.  You have to do these steps in order though.

Flash the 4mb x-chip_evox_v1.3 bios.  boot off of the slayers cd.

while starting up, enter the settings by pressing start, make sure all of your settings are correct

use slayers to install and format your entire drive

before restarting use config magic (on the slayers cd) to check the settings there too.

best of luck

Ok, Seems I can get it to load games and stuff, but when I look in the System setting from the slayers disc, it tells me I have Dashboard +3935 And I know I rebuilt the HD with the 3b1) Full Install/Rebuild Retail HD - 5960.

So when I reboot the unit it looks as if it is gonna go to a Dash, it give me the xbox logo with the 2 icons to the top left and right, them it goed into a screen that has a green globe looking thing athe the top right that then expands so itc like youare in the center of it, the globe gets fully expanded and then the HD makes some funny little noise and I get error 21.
I am still unable to get to the M$ dash so I can reset the clock.
This is what the screen looks like when I boot from the slayers disk.

TOP LEFT:
13:54:14- 12/5-8907

SlaYer's Tools v2.6
EvolutionX V- 3935
Bios: Unknown
Kernel: 1.00.5838.01
IP:
HD Temp:N/A

If I had loaded the wrong Dash or rebuilt the HD with the wrong install, can you please post to me the settings I should be looking for and what changes I may need to do?I really do not understand what I should do in config magic, and I didn't want to screw anything up

The strange noise that the HD is giving off is makeing me suspect that the HD has some flaw, yet I just played a 4 hour session of Burnout3...? with saves. I probably just doin something wrong.

Thanks again for any help.

if its just the clock then that gives me an idea...

I haven't tried this but its worth a shot

open up the contents of the slayers cd.  Somewhere in the system folder, you'll find the contents of your HDD.  Copy xboxdash.xbe to another location.
Now rename it default.xbe and put it on a cd with some dummy files.  Boot the xbox off of the cd and if it worked right you should be in the m$ dash.  Then you can reset the clock.

I'll try this later and tell you if my new idea works or not for you

update:  on the instructions above, I got to the m$ dash by waiting for the disc to boot (changing from screen to evox and x-chip logos to MS logo at bottom)
then hitting eject.  Still working with it.  I'll update if i find out anything else

UPDATE #2:  I tested it a couple of different ways.  The method I mentioned above worked 1 out of 3 times so I guess it takes patience as well
good luck

How did you look in the syste folder on the cd? My PC is giving me a file is corrupt or unreadable. and I just burnt another one to make double sure the disk wasn't nerfed.
Are you looking at the files from the xbox or PC?

and let me get this right, on the screen with the M$ logo at the bottom I should eject then swap disks with the one that has the default.xbe and dummy loads.
Sounds easy enough I've had good paitence withit so far, I can do this, I just nned to know how you got to the system folder on the cd.

Thank you so much for your help. I look forward to your reply :)

sorry for the wait on the reply... my e-mail notification settings got screwed up so I got a little behind on a lot of things....

anyway heres what I did:

took the slayers disk already burned, put it into the computer

used a program like nero to create an image of the disk

used a program like extract-xiso to extract the iso's contents

then you should see the files you need to work with.

Create a new disk with the xboxdash.xbe named default.xbe and a dummy file

either boot with slayers or boot normally, wait till you see the flubber and the M$ logo at the bottom

then hit eject

hope this works on yours...

Thanks so much for all your help.

Seems I am haveing a time with gettingthe extracting part down, as I have searched for the extract-xiso, but came up only finding what I think was junk on google. I have ultraiso, but I am not sure that this program will work for me as I am haveing a ahrd time getting it to work or understanding how it works. As Soon as I get a grasp on what I am doing with this I will try what youhave suggested and post back how it has turned out.

If you could point me as to were I might be able to get the extract-xiso, I wil go and try that as well. I really really appreciate all the help and time you have given me this far :) thank you so much!

You can find this program at xbins.  Its a lot easier than looking everywhere else and going around in circles.  A guide to get files from this place can be found here

its kind of like a candy store for xbox hackers.

Ok, I got all the needed software and set up ready to go and I tried it bu thave com eup empty so far.

A few questions, Should I see, if I load the cd with the default .xbe and dummy.bin file on should I see the two files just sitting there or should they be in another format like an ISO or something, maybe the xbox is not see it correctly and not acting as it should.

Should I boot from the 1.3 bios or from the xbox bios off the x-chip?
As soon as I see the Xbox logo with MS at the bottom I should eject het dvd tray and load the cd on it and tryt o get it to boot from that cd correct?
