So I've Screwed Up My Xbox
« on: July 13, 2003, 08:33:00 AM »

Alright...here my situation.

I've tried doing the Bert/Erine Exploit and I've screwed my box.  Everytime I boot without a disc, I get "Your X-Box is in need of Sercive..." screen.  I've tried putting everything back to normal, but it does the same thing.  It works just fine when I put a game in, and I can still save to the harddrive and all that good junk.  I just can't access my files without using the exploit and running the EvoX setup.  I'm thinking my next step is to actually buy a freaking mod chip and just getting a new harddrive (my original plan, until I heard about the exploits).  Will this fix all of my problems, or should I just go buy a new X-Box?

Go ahead and flame.  I knew the risks when I did it.  I'm just a dumbass and forgot to back up the entire harddrive.  biggrin.gif  Just want some help if anyone is willing.

Well this is plain bullshit... Your posting makes no sense.
You say you can start evox... so where is the problem?
Everything is working fine...

You're not being very specific.

First off what kernel did you have and what dash? And how did you implement the exploit? 007?Hotswap?

No matter I'm pretty sure you can get your xbox up and running again.. seems like the only way to access your xbox hdd is xlinux hotswap were you can reinstate your backup font files and possible xbe dashes that you must have renamed or deleted.. I'm assuming that you must have forgotten to put in the default.xbe file that came with the bert/ernie exploit.

other than that good luck.. i'll be scanning the forum to help you if you need it

ok...

When I turn my xbox on, with no disc in the DVD Drive...I get "Your Xbox Needs Service...".

The only way I can load EvoX is with the 007 save file.

I can access my harddrive using the 007 save file and then FTPing into it.

I've tried reinstalling the original files, still no go.

Kernal is 3944 and I can't remember my Dash version...but it's current with Xbox Live

This is what my C: looks like

folders
Audio
fonts
SKINS
xboxdashdata1012a700
xodash

files
default.xbe (from Bert/Erine)
settings_adoc.xip
Xbox Book.xtf (from Bert/Erine)
Xbox Book.xtf.bak
Xbox.xtf (from Bert Erine)
Xbox.xtf.bak
xboxdash.xbe

Have you done something at all with the original xboxdash.xbe in C:? If you have, then that could be the problem. Otherwhise, reinstalling the original fonts in both C: and C:Fonts would have fixed your problem.

Well...my original xboxdash.xbe is gone for some reason.  I was sure I backed it up, but I can't find it anywhere (on my xbox drive or my PC drive).  I've had several people send me a copy of theirs, but nothing seems to be working.  I did try loading Mechassult and tried to install XBox Live to see if I could get it to update the dashboard, but it tells me my disc is either dirty or damaged.  Then it throws me back to "Your Xbox needs Service Screen...".  I'm thinking my system will never boot to the dash again.  Any suggestions on which mod chip to get?  I've got a new harddrive to put in (40 GB), just looking for a solderless chip to get.

Thanks everyone for the help, but I'm sure it will never run the X-Box dash again.  I'll just mod the damn thing...which was the plan in the first place.

Fuck it...everyone that has told me to do something I appriciate it.  But it still dosen't work.   No dashboards are coming up...but I can still play games.  If I really want to get somewhere...I'll just mod this xbox and buy a new one to play on Xbox Live and all that fun shit.

Don't stress girls!!  If you really are stuck then swap hd using the 007 evo hack.  It works cos I've done it myself, also I have found that I have been locked out with my original drive so I just used another drive from another box that I unlocked 1st!  I have a modchip so no problem is to big.

I have tried to foolproof my xbox now for when m$ counterstrike with new checks, I have external drives now one is original intouched the other is evox backup drive, I followed :
External HDD Mod Tutorial (v0.1)
Tutorial written by : Efini  found on xbox-scene

both in cheap £10 caddies.  Cheers to m$, Efini, xbox-scene for helping me educate myself.  Just need a pole switch nopw so i dont have to swap to wires for the drives, i have been looking for an ide switcher....they must make them? Anyone?

Alright...after 4 days of trying to make it work...I've got EvoX up and running.  Can't be happier (haveing a beer or 4 right now).  Now my problem is my LED is flashing red and my DVD drive won't read a disc from EvoX.  It's fine when I boot a DVD from startup.  Is this just because I'm running an older Kernel?
