You should not have done the hex-editing on the original xboxdash.xbe, but on a backup of it that you later rename to for example "newdash.xbe" or whatever, and point EvoX to that file.. But even if your original xboxdash is messed up you should be able to boot a game if you boot your xbox with a game in the dvddrive. I know i can boot a game even if my original xboxdash does´t work (i´ve tried just that). If that does´nt work for som odd reason, i guess you have to try the hdd swap trick and see if you xbox hdd gets unlocked.

Well you do not say how you got the stuff onto the harddisk etc...

A broken dashboard is not a dead xbox... Maybe you have to void
your warranty now, but you can open the xbox and do a hotswap
and repair the dashboard. However this seems to be tricky for
windows users because the windows tools to get onto the harddisk
are crap.

Ok i've got access to the hard drive. Even when the error 16 appeared, it unlocked my hard drive and i was able to hot-swap. I renamed my back up back to xboxdash.xbe and it still doesnt work.. I deleted the xft files and it still doesnt work.. I'm going to try completly reloading the exploit..

uhm, maybe thats because you havent hex edited and renamed xft back to xtf. next time, fully read what you're supposed to be doing before rushing into stuff.

It has nothing to do with changing back to xtf in the hexeditor. If he does that to the orginal xboxdash.xbe, it won´t be ms-signed anymore. And won´t work no matter what he does. You should´nt even rename the original xboxdash.xbe or move it anywhere, just leave it alone. Copy it and rename it to something else instead, and use that as a dashboard replacement and point EvoX to the new filename, for example "newdash.xbe". If you do anything with the original xboxdash.xbe, chances are your xbox won´t start again. It should boot up a game cd though, if you have it in you xbox when you boot.
