Hey pal!

You dont need a XBL account to upgrade your Xbox Dashboard...
Just buy a XBL enabled game (I used Splinter Cell) and hit on d/l content..then it will download the new upgrade (it may take a while)
Just make sure you have your Xbox connected to your Cable Modem

make sure you connect the x-box with your pc/hub/router using a UTP cable (or crosscable, depends...)
it will not be greyed out any more...

It only took a few minutes, I thought it was gonna take forever because the progress bar didnt seem to be moving. So don't worry if the progress bar doesn't move much.

ooh ok.  thanks alot.  so i really dont need an account, i just need an internet connection.  no problem,  oh by the way i have the first dash and kernel that came with the xbox.  when i go to system information on my xbox, it doesn't even say anything besides the legal stuff.  i read somewhere else in the forums that if that's the case, then you have the earliest versions.

Jlc carv, I would look in your system info and see if it shows your kernel/dash version so you can make sure it worked. I dont like the xblive menu being there but hopefully I'll have the exploit setup soon so I can replace the dash.

Mop2tk, it should upgrade to dash 4920

I just hooked the xbox up to a hub so it had link, and threw in Mechassault.

Went to Multiplayer -> Live game -> .... Couple of other menu's, not sure what. But anyway. It asked me if I wanted to update to include Live support and I said yes. It told me that it was updating the Dash.. Then rebooted... And bang, new dash.

Note I only hooked it to the hub, there was no actual internet connection. Not sure if all the games work this way.

Hope it helps

We have 4920 - thanks Mord, wimpie, etc.! Just the network connection needed, not an actual connection to the internet. This had been bugging me for a couple of days.

Ready to roll...
