Right AFTER the IDE detection of drives occurs hit the Pause/Break key on your keyboard. Its on the upper right above the Page Up key if you dont know where it is.

How exactly do I know when IDE detection of the drives is going on? Is there something I listen for? I have tried booting with XLinux before, and I never see anything telling me when this is going on.

When i tried the swap method i let it sit for 10 min. then hooked up the ide cable to the pc and let it boot up, it detected it in the bios, and in XP device manager but when i run the driver it hesitates and then says "Bad News: cannot find a xbox hard drive" and then it names off several physical device addresses. Anyone know what the problem is?

Ok i need major help here...i need a backup of an xbox hard drive like what you did with hdd driver. Mine somehow got corrupt and when i did everything with bert/ernie exploit it boots up now and goes to xbox screen and then reboots yet again and again and again. Please let me know if you know where to find one or you have one you can upload or something.

Two questions -

I finally got this to work tonight but at the end of the Tutorial it says to "MD /xbox/skins"

The directory in the Bert and Ernie file is "Skin". Does this cause a problem? Should I rename the directory to Skins in the bert and ernie section?

When I completed and unmounted everything I booted the xbox and got the Service Error. I have been trying for an hour for HHD to see the drive but it will not - any advice? Can I use a different hard drive?

Thanks.

at this part:

"f)
Now is the moment of truth!!!!
Be very careful and unplug the IDE cable from the xbox HD and plug in the one from the computer into it. Dont touch the bottom of the HD where all the chips are or you might fry it. Make sure you pull the cable out fast or else the HD will remain locked.

NOTE: Keep the xbox on from now on until I tell you to turn it off."

say like i didn't pull the cable out fast enough and my HD remain locked, what would happen?

I'm new to hacking so I don't know much about anything.  I almost understand the tutorial but I have one question.  What do I burn to a CD?  I downloaded Xebian from http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/  and I unpacked it, now what?  Everything that came with it can't possibly fit onto one CD can it?  I need to know what to burn and I will be grateful.  Thank you!

QUOTE (EnigmusSnake @ Jul 13 2003, 03:57 PM)
Woohoo khirok about time this thread gets pinned.. congrats man.

Krisx. Fellow 4034 dashboard owner.

HDD Driver wasn't an option for my WinME OS. So luckily khirok has the perfect solution for aggravated users of HDD Driver.

You don't need the fonts folder that comes with dash 4920. Just backup the xbox.xtf and Xbox Book.xtf files in the root folder and copy over the exploited font files.

I didn't use the Free-X exploit nor the default.xbe file in it.

All I need was just the Bert is cheating on ernie exploit.

So copy over the Bert and Snuffleupagus files as xbox.xtf and Xbox Book.xtf as well as the default.xbe file with that exploit into the main root.

just don't touch the xboxdash.xbe folder as your xbox will boot that first and try to access the exploited font files. Those font files in return will direct to the default.xbe file.. took a while for me to realize how the process works.. other than that you should be able to load up evox perfectly.

One odd thing about this whole process though.. the bert is cheating on ernie exploit required that you needed a 4920 dash.. but i took the risk as well and had no problems.. if anything i think i had an advantage as that I was able to run the programs from xbins (xbmp.xcommander.a few emus) without even having to sign them with xbedump.

so good luck and tell me how yours runs.

so EnigmusSnake, can you tell me the exact linux codes command to type in to copy and move all this file to my x-box hard-drive?

I just got me the bert is cheating on ernie zip file and here are the folder and files in the zip:

Skin (folder)
bert.xtf
default.xbe
evox.ini
snuffleupagus.xtf

so, which file do i have to rename, and which file am i not gonna use...

I also have a dashboard 4034 too so the the original tutorials kinda confuse me biggrin.gifs...

so the "font" folder on the x-box hard-drive doesn't exist on dash 4034 right?

and by meaning the main root, which drive is that? is that drive c or e on the x-box harddrive?
