First of all, i found that the tutorial needs to be revised to properly reflect the different versions of the xbox, because i am very pissed that i followed them to a t, along with reading about 20 pages of littered posts, and my xbox is promently fucked. If people are going to follow a guide, i suggest it be kept throughly up to date.

I've followed the directions using ernie reloaded, now my xbox gets past the startup, and loads a grid then reboots. It does still play games though. I've come to the point where i cannot hotswap the xbox HD anymore, i've tried letting it sit at a load save screen on a while, then hotswaping it to no avail.

Since i cannot hotswap, what are my options?
-would getting a modchip installed with an autoboot cd fix it?
-would the 007 hack work, mainly, would i be able to copy from the memory stick to hd at bootup?

You cannot get a game save hack on there if you can't reash the msdash. A modchip would always work yes, but it shouldn't be needed.

Try pulling the DVD ide-cable before booting. This will let your xbox reach and error 12 (or is it 13?) and you xbox will sit there with the HDD in an unlocked state. Then hotswap and use linux to fix your hack or restore your fonts.

BTW. For anyone having trouble with xlinux and NTFS drives, check my sig. for information on xboxhdm. Also consider this for a more user-friendly xlinux...

Well it's hard to say whats wrong in this case. Could be corrupt files, could be missing setting (xip) files....
You did remove the bert and ernie files right - and checked that the original font files were uploaded correctly ?
If you made a complete working backup of your C-drive before softmodding, try replacing your current files with this. Or get Slayers Evox and replace your C-drive with the one you find if you extract this iso.

Ok quick question...... I was able to boot up, no errors, and did the mkdir /xbox fine and did the mount command.  When I tried to swich to the fonts directory it said that the specified location does not exist or something similar to that, basically no folder "fonts" exists.  What did I do wrong?  Or what am I missing?  I followed the directions step by step.  I dont know if this makes any difference but  I have my cd rom as master slave, regular hd as master, and xbox hard drive alone on the second channel on cable select.  Does it matter if I have the xbox hd set up on cable select, master, or slave, as long as its on its own ide cable?  Thanks in advance.

ok I just got done re reading the forms again, and in there it said if you dont have a fonts directory than you just upload to the system directory..... does that mean i just do the same thing except instead of the fonts directory, i upload to c: ?  or c:\system ?  Thanks.

Your PC drive is probably NTFS formatted. Xlinux doesn't support this filesystem. Try xboxhdm instead...
