How To Boot Original Dash Through Freevox
« Reply #150 on: August 01, 2003, 05:03:00 AM »

I hacked/renamed/signed the original dash and added it as a menu item in evox.ini. This worked fine. However, when I try to play my ripped music the box just reboots when I click the "play" button. Anyone else noticed this behaviour?
Playing from the original CD works fine, only the saved music which don't play...

Also, I've noticed some ppl have the AudioItem line commented, but mine is not.
CODE
AudioPlayer   = "c:newxboxdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard   = "c:newxboxdash.xbe"

.
.

[Menu]

Section "Root"
{
   Item "GentooX","E:gentooxx.xbe"
   Item "MS Dashboard",@3
   Item "boXplorer","c:boXplorerdefault.xbe"
   Item "Run DVD Game","d:default.xbe"
   Item "Reboot",@5
   Item "Power Off",@10

Could someone clarify on this? Also, what does the @3, @5 etc stand for? An "evox.ini tutorial" would be appreciated, anyone?

is it strange that i didn't resign the xboxdash.xbe with xbedump and it worked perfectly? i figured that would throw off MS's digital signature or something.

the led blinking is usually from the version of the fonts you are using. I use bigfonts without a problem. I believe the new phoneix loader allows you to set the light colour to whatever you like.

ok, I see you mean http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=45&t=84734 is pinnded lol. The title "How To Link The Ms Dashboard To Evox" made it sound like it has to do with editing the msdash to load evox, not the otherway around laugh.gif

I'm am having a hell of a time getting this thing to work with my 1.0v xbox, kernel 4034, dash 4920.  I can currently run the Evox and Phoenix loader with no problems.  I can even run backed up games and homebrew apps from xbins. I'm using the newest Evox dashboard along with the bigfonts.tbz file.  It is loaded via the Phoenix 1.3v signed loader.

Here are the steps that I followed:

1) I searched for all instances of x.t.f or XTF in Hex Workshop.  I came up with the following results for XTF:
CODE

Address                    Length
-----------------           -----------------
0x00034E04            0x00000003
0x00034E15            0x00000003
0x00034F6C            0x00000003
0x00034F78            0x00000003
0x0003532C            0x00000003
0x00035335            0x00000003
0x000E7427            0x00000003

2) I proceeding to replace all values of XTF for XFT

3) I saved the file and ran xbedump:
CODE

xbedump xboxdash.xbe -font

I tried it also unsigned and with some others, for example habibi to no avail.

4) Everything passes the checks.
5) I opened up ftp utility and ftped the new xboxdash
6) Changed the Xbox.xtf and Xbox Book.xtf file in the root directory of C and the C:/Fonts/ directory to Xbox.xft and Xbox Book.xft

When I reboot the xbox and select Go to MS Dashboard it just freezes.

Can someone please give me some helpful hints where I erred.

Thanks

QUOTE (eug2k @ Jul 10 2003, 12:32 AM)
ok here is something weird
when i boot the modified msxboxdash.xbe ftom freevox and put a dvd in i get the Your xbox is fucked up fix it thing
when i press launch dvd in evox i get "You dont have a dvd playback kit"
when i boot with the dvd in it works fine

I have the same problem. I can play the DVDs once i boot up the xbox with the dvd in the drive...
However, I have the xbox remote control and I want to use it with the dvd. But, when I
use any buttons during the playback of the movie the xbox will restart.

Is there a way to fix this so that i can fastforward and rewind with the
xbox remote control?

My current setup:
Bert and Ernie Exploit
Free-XEvox
Modified msxboxdash.xbe w/=*...x.t.f changed to x.f.t

Okay, I messed something up, BIGTIME. I renamed all of those files in the xboxdash file and since xbedump gives you no instuctions on how to use it, I just ran it, a black box appeared for about a millisecond and then disappeared. I then tried to place xboxdash into xbedump and the split second box came up again. NO new 'out.xbe' files or anything. So, I tranfered it over to my xbox, and rebooted. Screen of death appearred.

(My 2 files were renamed, but I forgot to change the evox .ini file. I'm not sure if the files were in the fonts folder and the c directory)

I tried to boot evox from 007.....screen of death. I cannot access my xbox or evox in any way. Always the screen of death. I don't think anyone will be able to help me. Or will you? I don't want to spend 170$ on a new Xbox.

you need an untouched xboxdash.xbe, xboxdash.xbe has nothing to do with 007..it just wont let you get into your original dash as opposed too start with game in..try doing a hotswap to get access

Hot swap? Taking out the drive? Isn't it locked?

*Wait, it couldn't be locked, it has evox still in it.....right?

**It is locked, and to unlock it, the tut says you need to get to the dash, and wait for the hd to spin down. Obviously, I cannot do that.

Is there any other way? Would throwing in a modchip solve it?

goes out to JakeDaNoobie:
have u ever heard of a DOS-command-prompt ?!

no?

u would have needed that to run xbedump

ud better have run the 'backup'-option of evox;
by that u would have had the chance to
get ur hd to work in ur pc and restore it.
[which is a bitch to lock/unlock each time but worth the stress]

better u READ stuff before u DO things u didnt understand

d.a.

PS: to all tha tutorial writer:

please mention to check the ftp-clients to b set anything
besides auto-resume!!!!
i guess i m not the only one with that option enabled
it has caused me// numberous others a big F*-up
and i guess many f*-boxes were victim of that option

Yes, I did the backup, but in order to unlock the hd, a tutorial said you need to get to the dashboard and let it spin down. I can't do that. Will the hd spin down while on the green xbox needs support screen? My computer sees it when i pause it at start up, but hd-drive doesn't find it. Is there any other programs I am missing?

.x.t.f in HEXADECIMAL is 00 78 00 74 00 66
there are 4 occurences, replace them with 00 78 00 66 00 74 (switching the f and the t)

save, sign, and whoila

this worked like a charm for me  biggrin.gif
