) Copy xboxdash.xbe from your xbox to your computer
2) Open it in a hex editor

3) Go to line 00046A8. On the right you should see x.t.f
4) Change to x.f.t
5) Go to line 00046E0. On the right you should see x.t.f
6) Change to x.f.t
7) Go to line 00 rotfl.gif 0A758. On the right you should see x.t.f
8) Change to x.f.t
9) Go to line 000A7E4. On the right you should see x.t.f
10) Change to x.f.t

11) Save the file
12) Run the file through xbedump and patch with -font
13) Rename out.xbe to newdash.xbe (or whatever you want)
14) Upload newdash.xbe to your C Drive on Xbox

15) Find your backed up old Xbox.xtf and XBox Book.xtf and rename them to Xbox.xft and XBox Book.xft and place them in your C:fonts folder and your C: folder.

16) Open evox.ini
17) Look for lines

#AudioPlayer = "c:xboxdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard = "c:xboxdash.xbe"

18) Change to

#AudioPlayer = "c:newdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard = "c:newdash.xbe"

(There are backslahes after the colons)

And there you go.

I am running kernal 4034 and dashboard 4920. If I try to search for the lines or even try to find them manually, I cannot find them. Am I just supposed to search for these as search strings? (I assume that they are not hex values because those have to be an even number and all of these values are seven digit numbers.) Before trying to edit the files this way, I used the patch provided in the link previously in this post. Does this just seek out every "xboxdash.xbe" on the hard drive and patch it? When I started the patcher I assumed that it would ask for me to locate the file, but it did not. I had copied and pasted this same file to another location on my hard drive, but when I tried to patch this file specifically it gave me some sort of error about file size. I said no to continuing anyway and just tried to edit this file manually (so I would have two edited files because I was slightly worried about the patch actually working), but I had no luck in finding the values provided in the previous posts. Am I not finding these values because the patch edited every "xboxdash.xbe" on my hard drive or because there is some sort of other problem? I doubt that the first is true because I compared the two files in Hex Workshop and they looked different (one started with 000A730 and the other started with 00004320). Can anyone help me get the orginal dash up and running on my Xbox? Help would be greatly appreciated!

on my 1,0 box they were a little off on 1.1 they were exact.  gotta look alittle.

for people with the old school boxes and the original dashboard, (1.8.3752), there are both XTF and x.t.f values, leave the XTF's alone and just change the x.t.f's.

There are only 2 occurences, they're at offsets 00009FDO and 0000A030, that's all, works like a charm.

I have a question, how do you get BACK to evoX from the dashboard without getting up and resetting the machine?

I renamed the original xtf files to xft in the fonts folder and I could boot up the original dash fine. Is there also a need to rename the original files in the root folder?

HELP: Modified two references in my e:xboxdash.xbe from xtf -> xft (thats all i could find) and it does not work, just reboots or freezes if i launch it from evox. (Yes i renamed the fonts as well).

BTW: I can run dvd movies as long as I dont incude the OSD to come up (obviously causing the fonts to load)

Are there supposed to be 4 instances? I have a v1.1 xbox, dont know what dash, cant check now sad.gif

If anyone could tell me where I could get a working hacked dash that would be a treat. On the other hand, since one version of the dash looks in the root of c for fonts, and the other in a subfolder, couldn't we skip the editting and just use one version to load ernie' and the other as the real dash?

ok, this is bad!  it was working perfect as of last night until about 30 min ago.
this is what happened:

1. i have had the orig files named .xft for some time (tried this a while back to no avail).  so all i had to do was figure out how to make the xbxodash.xbe load them.  i found two .xtf instances in there and changed them.  then i signed it and uploaded to my xbox.  when accessed through the EvoX menu, all i got was a reboot...and when accessed through XCommander, i got an error 21.  i assumed this came from renaming the file to msxboxdash.xbe after i dumped it, so i uploaded the orig out.xbe and linked to that.  lo and behold...IT WORKED!!!

2. i have had Halo hacked w/ the trainer on my e drive for some time as well...downloaded through XCommander.  then i decided to train it w/ the halohacker trainer instead, so i could change the cheats in the menu.  worked fine, and soon i was havin more fun w/ halo.  i then wanted to shoot down that bastard 343 GS, so i tried to locate the "one shot kill" cheat.  this was not to be found in the halohacker trainer, so i wanted to reload the orig trainer by CZN.  i then proceded to delete the default.xbe from my halo directory so i could copy the orig off the disc again.  i tried to access the game from XCommander (which has worked every other time in the past), and all i got was Video_TS.  what the hell?!  i then restarted to load EvoX, and noticed it said video instead of game...?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

2b.  when i try to launch the game form the EvoX menu, i get error 21...off of an XBOX DISC!!!  what is going on?

i am thinking about reloading all of the orig files and starting this over, but i want to see if any of u guys out there can help me before i do that.

thanks in advance!

PEACE!

I followed this procedure, with the one exception I did not sign the xbe..

loading the ms dash from evox (via phoenix loader, unmodded 3944 1.0)  just makes it reload evox instead

i guess I'll need to sign it, but I am curious because I have not had to sign any of the xbe's I'm running (gentoo linux, xbmp..)

is there a patch available that I can apply to my dashboard.xbe file or is the only option to hex edit it?

Yey- tnx first for a great topic..
Now- Question:
Do you really have to sign the "xft-hacked" xbe ?
Since this is a workaround for the Bert and ernie thingie?
Bert makes the box able to run unsigned code right?
I got this working earlier this day and I can't remeber signing the dash--

Maybe I'm just stupid- but atleast it doesn't hurt me

When I used XVI32 (hex editor) i found 2 matches of 78 00 74 00 66. However, if you check the "Joker char hex" and replace the '00's with '2E's as suggested, you will get 4 matches.

When I tried this trick a switched places between the '74's and '66's on all 4 places. It ended up working just fine, although I'm not sure if all 4 occurences has to be fixed or just the 2 found without the wildcard match. Since it worked for you it should work for others, but this could be the explanation to some people finding 2 and some find 4 occurences. Also, using different hex editors could give different results, depending on the search settings. XVI32 can be downloaded here.

Its not hard, just replace the xonlinedash.xbe with the xboxdash.xbe that loads the XTF (as in bert and ernie) files and you are all good.

Oh, you will need to update your dash with xbox live so you have a 4th menu option on the ms dash obviously, and you can change the "Xbox Live" text to "Back to evoX" or something just by searching for the strings in a hex editor.

PS: I'll just say it one more time because it f'ed me around for yonks - Only change lowercase .xtf instances NOT the uppercase ones if you have them.
