lethalfrog, the xboxdash always loads everything from C: regardless where you launch it from.

You basically are hex-editing the xboxdash so it uses extension of .xft instead of .xtf for the fonts.

This enables you to use the original dash with the bert and ernie .xtf fonts. But once these fonts are in place you cannot use the original dash any longer because it always is loading the bert and ernie fonts.

Your edited/modified dash will look for fonts with .xft instead. So rename the original fonts from .xtf to .xft and leave them where they were.

Now the free-x exploit still works and you can also launch an edited xboxdash which is modified to look for its fonts as extension .xft

This is just so the original fonts can co-exist with the modified bert and ernie. If the xboxdash were able to be run from another folder then this would not be needed, but it always looks at C:

1) Copy xboxdash.xbe from your xbox to your computer
2) Open it in a hex editor

3) Go to line 00046A8.  On the right you should see x.t.f
4) Change to x.f.t
5) Go to line 00046E0.  On the right you should see x.t.f
6) Change to x.f.t
7) Go to line 000A758.  On the right you should see x.t.f
8) Change to x.f.t
9) Go to line 000A7E4.  On the right you should see x.t.f
10) Change to x.f.t

11) Save the file
12) Run the file through xbedump and patch with -font
13) Rename out.xbe to newdash.xbe (or whatever you want)
14) Upload newdash.xbe to your C Drive on Xbox

15) Find your backed up old Xbox.xtf and XBox Book.xtf and rename them to Xbox.xft and XBox Book.xft and place them in your C:fonts folder and your C: folder.

16) Open evox.ini
17) Look for lines

#AudioPlayer   = "c:xboxdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard   = "c:xboxdash.xbe"

18) Change to

#AudioPlayer   = "c:newdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard   = "c:newdash.xbe"

(There are backslahes after the colons)

And there you go.

ok, this will assure you to find it

Do a search for this (in hex):  78 00 74 00 66

This is just x.t.f in hex format. You will be sure to find it if you use the hex code. Keep on doing find next so you can replace others too..

i've created a little patch just to don't have to hex the dashboard.
download it here.
you have to sign the dash after the patch has been applied.

good work everyone!  beerchug.gif

your patch doesn't actually do a search in the xbe for "x.t.f" and replace it with "x.f.t" . In different dash versions the x.t.f is in different mem locations, so I'm afraid this won't work for everyone (didn't work for me).

Also, does it replace ALL of the x.t.f ? I thought about creating a patch but realized it wouldn't be better. Thanks, but I think I'll stick to ultraedit for now

Verified!

Good work, men.

FONT HACK is on its way to full functionality.

From other post, the following are major problems as they now stand:

1) MSDASH PROBLEM-- NOW SOLVED!

2) IGR/EXIT APP CRASH

3) DVD ACCESS-- some reports that Xcommander can see the files on the DVD drive in some instances.  Still working on this one.
