I'm not sure what to say.  There are many steps and you could have made a simple mistake at any one of them even though you think you may not have.  What I would do is go through the whole process again and make sure everything is perfect.  For instance, you could have patched the .xbe and then uploaded the original insteadn of the patched or something like that.  So just make sure everything is perfect.

I have tried every dash I have and it works with the hex-edited xboxdash.xbe to load the modified extension for fonts as .xft. Old 3944 dash, 4920 dash and the latest 4920 dash update.

My tests here all involve the latest 4920 dash update from XBLive and 3944 BIOS.
The only modification I made to the original dash is to rename the xodash folder to xodashbak. Doing so removes the XBLive menu tab from the dashboard (if you try to run it will cause error because that xbe is not signed - no reason to want to run it anyways).

I am using the original free-x bert and ernie and latest evox 3752. I renamed the font files in fonts folder only, and but bert and ernie there. I did not touch the xtf in the root of C:.

I hex-edited a copy of the xboxdash.xbe and renamed it to msxboxdash.xbe

I set both of those settings in evox.ini to yes (cant remember the lines exactly) so it is supposed to launch the dashboard if the clock is not set. I also set the dashboard in evox.ini to msxboxdash.xbe

I left the xbox unplugged all night.

When I turned it on this morning it went into evox, but I noticed a brief split-second animation of original dashboard quickly which I do not normally see, then evox comes up (date is all incorrect) I turned off/on several times and seen this same animation flicker. I then ran the dashboard from evox and set the clock. It did not jump to the clock setting, but rather to the normal dash menu. Next time I turn on xbox I do not see this flicker of animation. It seems that the dash is started to go into clock menu with a flag on bootup only, and this flicker of animation was most likely the clock setting I was seeing but bert & ernie did their thing and launched evox. The reason I say this is that when I launched dashboard from evox, it did not start at the clock setting menu.

So basically evox did not detect and launch msxboxdash.xbe to set the clock like I expected. But at least I can set the clock.

I did not experience the looping problem that some people have. Maybe it depends on the dashboard version and this latest one is immune?!? I did not try to launch a DVD though - I will try later when I get home because xbox has been unplugged all day. I will try to launch original 007 or something right from the start when I turn it on, and I will report back my findings.

I will also try the Bert is cheating on Ernie and see if that has looping problem after clock needs resetting. Some say it does, some say it doesn't. Some say that Complex does, some say Evox does... there is so much conflicting stories it would be nice to get to the bottom of this. I also want to try all tests with 4034 BIOS, and with newer BIOS to see if that makes a difference.

The only problem is it takes so long to discharge the capacitor in the Xbox to test the clock problem. Anyone know how to remove/disable it so I can do quicker tests?

I've been in the scene for awhile now and since this watershed over the past week and the ingenious stuff everyone has come up with has been incredible. I never did want to open my Xbox and void its warranty (since my fiance paid for the extra warranty program from one of the stores) and I knew since it was mainly a PC that one day someone would find out how to do this without a modchip. So today I sat down at my PC with xbox close at hand and followed two great tutorials for guidance this one and the one by K-Naledge and everything worked more or less. Except for the fact that sometimes I had to come up with little work arounds for things that my box didn't like. Overall though I've never spent a better few hours at my PC and Xbox.

While others may start crying about how it is giving the scene too much attention (which is true) I would like to give everyone who has worked so hard on the Xbox the round of applause they deserve... a round of drinks would not be out of the question either  beerchug.gif

Good work everyone!

texbum, to be safe keep xbox plugged in (not sure about the clock reset problem yet).

Boot from 007 AUF or Mechassault and gain FTP access... restore dashboard to the way it was. Basically remove the bert and ernie.xtf and rename the font files back to what they were.

Have you tried just booting the Xbox with the 007 game, cause while I was doing the software patches I didn't install Free Evox at first so my box would continually reset when booted without a game disc. If it can do that let us know cause then you can use the 007 exploit and at least get FTP access to fix your box.

first off thanx for replying guys im really wigging out here.

ok I used this faq to be able to play back up discs. I went through all the steps like he said. The one thing I think I might have done wrong is I waited to install the Evox until after I had FTPed everything over.

Now my xbox is not booting at all and I cant FTP in. I tried putting 007 back in and not even that worked. Any ideas? Maybe I have to or had to flash my HD? I dunno...... sorry im a total noob.

found xtf too in PAL dash
you need to search for unicode xtf not x.t.f as x-point-t-point-f
or hex search for "2A002E007800740066" (*.xtf)
PAL dash with Live
