How To Boot Original Dash Through Freevox

QUOTE(Noblesoft @ Mar 7 2005, 10:15 PM)
Im running a 5838 version xbox (V 1.6 i think) and Ive tried searching through the xboxdash.xbe for all instances of 78 00 74 00 66 several times. I come up with about 7 entries, and when i replace them all and sign it, the xbedump tells me that the header size is invalid. It runs to completion then says FALSE!!!!! FALSE!!!!!!!! at the end. Is this normal? I ask this because when i transfer it all back and reset my xbox, the system crashes with an error 13 when i try to switch to the msdash. Any hints? Id love to have my memory card manager back!   blink.gif

What the hell are you trying to do? you can't edit the main xboxdash.xbe. it is needed for the exploit. You better use a newer exploit and set up a virtual C. I don't even understand why you look in such an outdated thread.

I have done it! I have booted the original dash using the free-x hack and freevoX.  It has full functionality too.

1.  Open xboxdash.xbe in hex workshop.
2.  Find address 00009FE8 and look to the right, you should see *.X.T.F...
3.  Change it to *.X.F.T...
4.  Save the file.
5.  Run xbedump and sign it with the font code.
6.  Copy it somewhere on E and redirect evox.ini to it.
7.  Rename xbox.xtf and xbox book.xtf to xbox.xft and xbox book.xft
8.  Go to load MS dash on the evoX menu and it should start.

Anyone know where I should go to distribute?

Now to make an *.nfo file for Kraken's first release smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif

This should also fix any clock problems because evox has someplace to redirect to.
The dash I used was an original V1.0 dash so for other dashes, the offset is probably different.
I would very much like to know if this updated msdash and the exploit in general work on v1.3 consoles.  If so, then we were the first to mod those systems before even the chipmakers.

Nice work!

However, you've been able to flash the TSOP on 1.3 boxes with the 007 AUF save hack for a little while now.

Also, the latest xboxdash.xbe works on all revisions.

Well, the modified dash loads different font files when editied, therefore it loads normally and not hacked.

It does solve things, and it's pretty clever.

You're making an alternate version of the MS dash which uses .xft
files instead of xtf files (or whatever), so that the alternate one
can run so you can change your settings.  You still want the original
to fail, of course, so you can continue to boot Complex or Evox.

Very clever, though I think the project to hack the msdash will soon
swallow a similar solution . . .

I want to thank you for this, you've enabled me to do what I want to do with my xbox now biggrin.gif

I have little interest in playing copied games, I do however like using my xbox as a multi-region DVD player, I can now do this.

Boot -> X-Free Exploit -> Hacked (MultiRegion & XFT) xboxdash.xbe

Thanks, if I get this working, I'll post a little tutorial but I doubt any others here would be interested in using this explot for Multitregion DVD's, we'll see how it goes smile.gif

Wow... a simple change of 2 letters and it solves some major problems people are having here if it works. Now it makes me think that since this whole dashboard exploit thing is so new, if I wait a month or maybe even a couple of weeks, a more thorough hacked msdash release will be out soon...
