I had the same problem as zbandito, but it still works as it would if you edited it manually in UltraEdit.  (I have tried both ways and come up against the same problem, see below).  There are four .xtf points in the hex editor - I changed them all with UltraEdit to .xft.

I have a PAL Xbox V1

  • K 1.00.4043.01
  • D 1.00.4920.01

My problem is that when I load up the new msdash.xbe I can get in everywhere but the Live tab.  I am able to change clock settings, get into the memory tab and music tab, but when I go into Live, the startup video plays but then I just get a blank screen.

Has anybody else found this problem, can they help me?

*Kernel 3944
*Dash 4920
*Launch unit

I got it working.  After installing bert:reloaded and an EvoX signed for Font hacks, I renamed the two original font files to *.XFT.  I did not change the name of bert.xtf or ernie.xtf.  Next I made a backup of the original MS Dash (xboxdash.xbe) by Right-clicking on the file and using the dump file command in HDD-Driver.  Then I began manually editing a copy of the file with Hex Workshop (got it from shareware.com).  I changed only the first instance of *.XTF in the original MS dash (xboxdash.xbe) to *.XFT; I searched for it using 'Find and Replace' and set to Unicode (case insensitive).  The location in m0y file was 0000A760.  I saved the file, then signed it with xbedump and uploaded it to E: (the savegames partition).  I edited the evox.ini to a working IP address and pointed it to the modified dash on E like this:

AudioPlayer   = "e:xft-xboxdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard   = "e:xft-xboxdash.xbe"

After editing, I uploaded the modified evox.ini.  Make sure you still have your original dash, plus the exploit, EvoX and a working .ini, plus an edited MS dash if you want to be able to access it.  Double check the file locations and config.  I used the hot-swap method, so I put the drive back and booted into EvoX.  I got XBMP running by signing the xbe..there are some minor issues still; I apparently cannot play original media without booting from it for one.  Hopefully there will be an autosigning dash/launcher for 3944 soon. beerchug.gif  ph34r.gif  muhaha.gif  rotfl.gif

Anusko,

I will try it. BTW, did you patch the *Dash_4920* of the EUR or USA xbox?

Or are the dashboards of both regions identical?

Hey Anu, I've got the 4920, but there's nothing at that memory location.  Also, your patch indicates wrong filesize, but the xbox shows it to be 4920... any ideas?

I've run it through the hex, and found a reference (multiple) to XTF, but no x.t.f or *.x.t.f or *x.t.f

Xbox-scene should tute this little yet ultra-valuable post before it gets lost in the endless void that is the xbox-scene forums.  Good job.

(tute meaning place it in the tutorials of course if kraken approves.)

QUOTE

1) Copy xboxdash.xbe from your xbox to your computer
2) Open it in a hex editor

3) Go to line 00046A8. On the right you should see x.t.f
4) Change to x.f.t
5) Go to line 00046E0. On the right you should see x.t.f
6) Change to x.f.t
7) Go to line 000A758. On the right you should see x.t.f
8) Change to x.f.t
9) Go to line 000A7E4. On the right you should see x.t.f
10) Change to x.f.t

11) Save the file
12) Run the file through xbedump and patch with -font
13) Rename out.xbe to newdash.xbe (or whatever you want)
14) Upload newdash.xbe to your C Drive on Xbox

15) Find your backed up old Xbox.xtf and XBox Book.xtf and rename them to Xbox.xft and XBox Book.xft and place them in your C:fonts folder and your C: folder.

16) Open evox.ini
17) Look for lines

#AudioPlayer = "c:xboxdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard = "c:xboxdash.xbe"

18) Change to

#AudioPlayer = "c:newdash.xbe"
MSDashBoard = "c:newdash.xbe"

(There are backslahes after the colons)

And there you go.

worked first try....good luck
