I have a modded box (matrix) and want to use the exploit to mod a freinds box plus a 120 gig HD. MS updates are not an issue due to NEVER going live. So where is the tute. for a larger HDD?

most people don't like this exploit because it's easy to install and easy to fuck up.so a n00b tries it and crashes his/her system and posts in these boards with stupid questions which all could have been dicovered alone.
then the n00b realizes he/she needs to get a mod to get the box working again.why do all this?get a real modchip and be happy with it.or use the 007 exploit and flash your tsop which requires minimal soldering.

n00b here, I read somewhere you had to extract the password from the xbox HD then you can use another albet larger HD and lock it using the same password. Then when u installed the larger drive the xbox would unlock and boot. Is this right?
My thinking is obviously do the HD Swap, using the HD DRIVER software to backup then restore this backup to a another HD, extract the PW from the xbox's HD, and use the same pw to lock the new HD. Then proceed with the rest of the "installation" of the Evox+exlpoit thingamajig.

Am I missing something here? I'm not sure if this is right, it sounds good thou. My only other question is will the xbox bios take the larger capacity HD even thou Evox is installed without a modchip??? If I had the equipment I would test this out myself. But if someone here thinks its sounds feasable I would know that my brain is working aokay.

scan,
How many posts have you seen where people fkd their mb trying to solder w/a 25 watt gun?  A hell of a lot harder to repair then just buying a pogo chip if you do screw up. I don't see a problem w/trying the little/no cost method 1st. If it doesn't work or goes bad it is simple to fix w/a chip.

see my point? Show me the flaw in my logic.
Oh and if someone could answer mt original Q that would be great.

I have the same question. Any way to upgrade the HD in an unmodded Xbox (with exploit installed)? I'm sure many people have this same question, as burning games onto DVD's can get expensive in the long run. I do have access to a modded Xbox. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the input guys. As I stated before I do have access to a modded Xbox. I understand that I can prep the new HD in the modded box, as well as load all the dashboard exploits. I really don't want to open up my computer to unlock/lock the new HD. Thus, I am still unsure about one thing. How would I go about locking the new larger drive? Would I have to lock it in the unmodded box? Is there a way to lock it specific for the unmodded box? These questions might sound silly, as I am unfamiliar with whether the HD lock fxn is Xbox specific and what else it entails. Again, any help is appreciated.

truinstinct, I just added a 120gig to my friend's box using the exploits.  It's very easy to do if you have a modded xbox handy.
If you've tried adding a larger harddrive to the UNModded box, you'll notice it won't boot.  This is because the larger hd is UNLOCKED.  So in order for it to boot, all you have to do is find a way to lock it.  It's a bit tricky to lock a hard drive on an unmodded box because you dont have access to the software on the unlocked harddrive, nor can you boot a CDRW on the unmodded xbox.
Using a modded box, I simply installed the larger hard drive onto mine.  After doing so, I loaded up ConfigMagic.  Now, If I lock the hard drive immediately, the larger harddrive WILL NOT be usable in the UNModded xbox because each Xbox has a UNIQUE HDD Key.
So in order for the hard drive to work in the unmodded xbox, you're going to have to update the modded xbox's EEPROM with the UNModded EEPROM.  Doing this will give the modded xbox the same HDD key used in the unmodded xbox.  After updating the EEPROM on the modded xbox, you can then lock the larger hard drive.
Once it's locked, you can now boot the larger harddrive on the unmodded xbox.  And you're set.  You can then do the exploits and such.  I hope this did more help than harm, but feel free to PM.  Goodluck.

alright this is complete theory right now, but it should work.  first do the font exploit (duh) and put ConfigMagic on your box.  Use ConfigMagic to find your HDD Key.  After that use the Ghost trick and copy the contents of your stock drive to the larger drive.  From there use DOS to lock the large drive with the HDD Key of the original drive.  Once that is done, put the large drive in the box and format the F: partition thru evox.  As I said this is theory, so I have no idea if this would actually work or if it would be necessary and/or possible to unlock the stock drive before using Ghost.
