OK got the hot swap accomplished.   I run the hdd_driver and install the bert and ernie files in the font directory, then the default.xbe file in the system directory.  Then I put the hdd back in the Xbox and it boots up saying I need it to be serviced.  SO i restore the h/d and it works normal again. BUt time and time again I get teh needs service era.  Am I missing something.  I know I have a ver 1.3 but how do I find out what kernel I have and also anyone willing to connect thru msn to my computer and help me through this?

When you follow the steps.....
he forgets to mention the part where you have to transfer the hdd key over to your new hdd from the chipbox.
Also, I had the same problem: Error 21....(when there was no key on the new hd)
Error 13:  Didnt recognize large hd with any other version of evox other than 3935!!

Once I transferred the key information, and created a new evox boot disc with v3935, it worked.

I'm having some problems with the process. I unlock my Xbox HDD and plug it into my IDE-1 cable (by its lonesome) and my computer detects it just fine. The BIOS shows the HDD and I can see the HDD listed in the WinXP-Pro device manager. However, when I fire up HDD Driver it says "I could find no xbox HDD. I looked from..." I am using a 1.1 mexican xbox (purchased in the US) with a philips dvd and seagate 10gb hdd (the one with the plastic semi-covering). Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. One weird thing is that when I first start my PC with the xbox hdd plugged in, it says "Sec Master HDD Error; Press F1 to Resume"

my xbox hard drive never stops spinning.  It went for 8 hours just at the dash yesterday without a stop, then i tried pausing it on a playlist track, went another 8 hours without stopping.

My kernel is: 3944.01
My dashboard is: 5659.03
I have Windows 200 Pro with SP1.
I bet I have v1.0 because I got my Xbox three weeks after they came out.

Is there a "time limit" as to how long the HDD can be without an IDE cable (during transfer) before it locks up? Plus I've tried everything I can think of. I have used the pause technique. I've tried telling the BIOS to not look for the xbox HDD. I've tried booting windows and then hot swapping. So far nothing. Windows Device Manager detects the hard drive though it is not shown in My Computer or Windows Explorer and HDD Driver gives me some dumb can't find the HDD error. Has anybody encountered this or have any words of wisdom for me? Also, if I get this done, what are the steps to installing my 80GB hard drive in my xbox?
