Xbox Hot Swap Evox/install Guide - Updated!

STKD-

First of all, thanks for the tutorial.  I was able to get this working thanks to you, but I think a couple of things need clarification.

The exploit that I downloaded contained bert.xtf, ernie.xtf, and default.xbe.  Applying these three files alone resulted in the xbox booting to a black screen with the xbox-linux webpage address in white text, nothing else (I posted about this a few pages back).  According to the tutorial, it should have taken me to evo-x.  I'm sure there are a lot of these exploit packs out there by now and I was simply using a different one than you did.  Perhaps clarify a bit as to what exploit package you were using.

I used free-xevox which required me to bring over the 'Skin' folder.  Since this is not possible, I renamed the Audio folder to 'Skin' and the subdirectory 'AmbientAudio' to 'PheoniX' and put the skin in there.  Once I could boot the x-box to evo-x, I ftp'd in and created a new 'Audio' folder, and copied all of the contents from the (now named) 'Skin' folder (minus the skin) into the new Audio folder.  (Renaming 'PheoniX' back to 'AmbientAudio', of course.)

Like I said, it's a great tutorial for the most part, and I certainly wouldn't have gotten it working without it.  I just figured that if I had these problems, more than likely other people will run into them as well.

if I use the audio xploit, do I still need to make a HD backup? I mean, you rename the old files with the .bak extension, but if you messed your HD, then just rename the file back would resolve the problem, isn't it?

Well, I got it to WORK!! hehehehe I'm runnig XBOX V1, don't know the dashboard ver. but kernel is 4034, ...... like flashram, I renamed the "audio" folder to "!Loader" , and the "AmbientAudio" to "patches" and put the files in there.... The complex loader started ... I put in a DVD-R (Halo) , I pressed White, and the game loaded up!! .... So now I'm going to check anything else....

Hey Everyone!

I have been following the Guide but Im stuck in the Hot Swap Step
I turn on my Xbox and I wait 10 mins as the guide says..then the Xbox screen goes black (like a screensaver) so I unplug the IDE cable from the back of the Drive and connect it to the 2nd IDE of my PC...
Then I turn on my PC and it says "Detecting IDE Drives" and stays like that and after 3 mins my PC doesnt even recognize my Hard Disk...
The Q are are the following :

How can I be sure I unlocked my Xbox HD?
Is it possible to use the Xlinux step?
How can i configure my BIOS so it will recognize my Xbox HD?

If someone knows how to fix this please help me out    uhh.gif

Thanx

That part of the tutorial is entirely dependant on which version of the (untried for my part) font exploit you have, and writing a `catch-all` tutorial going through each one is something that would be just about impossible. If you've got one of those, you're best using this as a guide to HDD swapping and then referring back to the readme.txt that comes with your exploit. There's just too damn many of them out there now.

BoomDivx - why on earth *wouldn't* you want an emergency backup of your Xbox HDD? It's the sensible thing to do when making changes of any kind to the files. If you're willing to skip a step like that one, maybe you really shouldn't be thinking about trying this with any exploit.

I just want to try to find another way cause I have a damn small HD on my PC (only 20GB) and I don't have the money to buy another one. Even if I burn everything on CD, I think I'll not have enough space. But the backup takes 11-12GB???? why is it so big? I mean, there's nothing else on the HD: no mp3, some save game, font, etc. What are the files that takes so much space on the HDD??

*just trying to get some answer before opening my box... and messe it up  dry.gif *

why does this work for some people but not others ..is it The DLL versions im using with HDD_DRIVER or is it a case of filling my XBOX HD WIth audio so there are no empty partitions ???

Really would like to get this exploit running ...please help lots of people have the same problem there must be a reason why it works for some and not others ??????????

It's because it isn't a copy of the files, it's an image file of the entire drive contents, empty space and all so that it can be restored to its exact original state bit for bit.

It just load, and load and load...

ok, so i screwed up. here's what happend:  i used the font exploit in an attempt to get evox running. i renamed the audio folder to skin and one of the others to pheonix and put the pheonix skin files in there. when i rebooted the xbox, i got the green screen of death with an error code of 16, which i believe is a dashboard setting error (probably caused by renaming the audio folder). i tried starting it with a game as well, but to no avail (same problem occurs).  sad.gif

i assume that the error code (16) would imply that the hd is being unlocked, so i was thinking about trying to swap before the dash fails, but i dont want to screw up the drive...

if anyone knows a way i could unlock it, or get the password, or maybe something else that might work  uhh.gif
your input would be greatly appreciated. thnx

if my question's been answered already, feel free to flame me, but atleast point me to the post

My PC has a small HD too (around 18 GBs)  dry.gif

Has anyone got a link so I can fix the empty partition problem?

Also if you cant get HDD Driver to work use XLINUX..burn the ISO image to a CD and boot it from your Bios  smile.gif

hum... I could try xlinux, but do I need to solder anything??? And can I boot xlinux with a cd-rom on the same IDE cable as my xbox HDD? cause right now, I have 2 HD on the first IDE then the XBOX HDD on the 2nd one, so no cd left for booting :S

p.s. The bios detect the HDD, the device manager detect it but "my computer" doesn't show it sad.gif
