I had that happen, too.

You are trying to load it off of your Memory Card, right?

Otherwise, this would be due to you not having placed the files correctly in their respective locations. OR your Kernal version not being 4034.

Error 21 is related to Xbox-Live I believe (which at this point, if you have never TOUCHED X-Box Live, is a good sign. This means that it's something to do with the placement of your files.

You need a v1.0/1.1 with a 4034 kernal

I'll add this to the Tutorial

Just remember NOT to boot from the memory card.

that number was outta the blue. It is a 1.0 Xbox K: 4034 D: 4920. I downloaded any updates available with Ghost Recon and tried again but that won't make a difference if my files arent in the right place. Although I'm quite positive I did everything step by step correctly. Time to go through again.

And what do you mean boot from the memory card?

I thought at first, "Hey, why not just boot it straight from the memory card?"

Like, just the Default.xbe and the EvoX installer part so I could get EvoX to pop up.

I forget now, but I'm almost positive since it didn't work for me obviously, I tried it again without the memory card, but sure enough it was something wrong with the placement of my files and I think I didn't include the default.xbe the first go around.

I'm not sure though.

I wish I knew back then I had intended on doing a Tutorial... I would have paid more attention lol. You and I will work on this though until you're up and running. Just keep updating us all. K?

Peace.

Yeah..I've run through again and still no go...What I found weird also was that I took the Matrix out of my other Xbox and couldnt get it to work on this one. It behaved like a v1.2 Xbox where supposedly the light was green for a second and then red. But I was able to get a constant green light although when I tried to boot it up, I had the double boot problem where it reset twice and then nothing..

This Xbox has a Seagate hdd, Thomson DVD, and manufactured 12-11-2001 so is no doubt a v1.0. All xbox live updates have been downloaded to ensure the right dashboard and everything is installed.

Now it looks like I'm just headed back to xbins to redownload everything and go to town on this bia again...

You won't be able to play backups right off the bat. You would still need to go ahead and make sure you can play originals first.

But I think when I wake up a little more I'll understand how to fix this. I have a really easy/simple idea as to what's wrong... but I can't quite get it out clearly enough right about now.

I think you may not have loaded the default.xbe onto the HDD or perhaps your FONT files are not in the proper locations. Can you still FTP into the X-Box?

If so, assign it a routable IP thru the internet if you have a Router. Open port 80, and perhaps I can connect for you and see what's going on. Let me hear back from you.

OH ALSO make sure you have a SKINS folder created on the X-Box in C: and put at least one EvoX skin in there. otherwise, the EvoX won't load. DUH! I'll add this.

No, wait wait..With the unmodded Xbox I can't even get EvoX to come up. When I hit A on my memory card for the location of the saved game for 007, it goes black for a lil and then goes right to the Error 21 screen.

I was just sayin how I tried puttin the Matrix in the box for shits and for whatever reason also couldn't get it to work as it behaved very similar to a boxs of those with v1.1/1.2's. Hmm...

I can FTP no problem on my Matrix modded box. Although I did have a question. I don't know anything about handling the saved game files but in another tutorial I read, they had you copy the 4541000d folder into BOTH "E:UData" and "E:TData" whereas you have the user uploading to strictly the UData folder. Any reason for this or does it work the same either way you do it?

It may be necessary to upload to E:TDATA on different revisions of the Kernal/Dash.

I had a "out-of-the-box" v1.0 with a 4034 (got it like half a year after it came out. I have NEVER played online, and only used to play Halo extensively. To my knowledge, and testing (as I read the same tutorial you did), I have found that on MY machine, E:TDATA is unnecessary. However, it wouldn't hurt to throw it in there.

I am using this as a way to help others get their own ball rolling, and as a learning experience. Like I said, I want to help you, so we can work together until it is set for you. Perhaps some more in-depth responses may shed some light on what the issue may be.

This post is best served as a reference now, so that users with varying revisions can see what they need to do, or get answers on similiar queries they have.

Thanks again!

If I understand correctly, you must move the saved game from the memory card onto the unmodded xbox hdd.  I'm guessing this works similarly to getting the gamesave off the modded xbox hdd?

as for the E:UData and E:TData thing, that was put into another tutorial that I read as well.  But there was a snippet afterward that said it's probably only supposed to go in one, but the person writing the tutorial didn't know which one it went in.  it causes no problems just putting it into both, as I understand it.

@K-Naledge,
Damn fine tutorial my friend.  best I've seen yet. beerchug.gif
one note:  if it is the case that you must move the gamesave onto the hdd of the unmodded xbox, you might want to edit that step in.

yeah man smooth,

ugh..Error Code 21. Hmm. Couple questions...still trying to get comfortable with this exploit..

1.) What if I copied the save game onto the Xbox's hard drive and then tried loading it from there?
2.) Could I replace the EvoX that was within 007aufsavewithEvoxInstaller.zip with, say, the Free-Xevox? Would it even make a difference?
3.) I don't do anything with the bert n ernie font files until I have EvoX running and my FTP to my PC up and running (which I still can't), correct?

Mother of god...Well I had nothing to lose. I copied the save game from the memory card to the unmodded xbox's hard drive and yanked the memory card out afterwards. Loaded 007. Load Mission. Clicked on Xbox Hard Drive and voila! EvoX booted right up. Immediately connected through FTP also, so I'm on to the next steps at last, eh? Good work.

Hang on.. I didn't realise that.

When you copy the save from the Memory card it also not just copies the hacked save to the hard drive but also whatever else was in it? Like Evox/emulators/XBMP ?

Perhaps it would be possible to hack up an evox.ini that could launch these from the save game area of the xbox hard drive.

You would still need to load 007/MA tho.

My apologies JUNKIE!! *slaps forehead*

Thanks for the catch by -nsn

I missed in the tutorial one of those "easy" steps you jsut take forgranted and breeze right by. YES, you DO have to load the save file to the HDD. If you read later in the tutorial you'll notice I imply this. But I didn't make it clear obviously. That is entirely my fault! Sorry for putting you thru the headache junkie! I have updated the tutorial.

Also, keep in mind that the theory of just loading all other apps and such FROM the memory unit (like a complete has of the font files, etc.) is NOT wise (because it doesn't give you the opportunity to backup the originals namely) AND they won't fit. I tried tongue.gif

Thanks again for the patience!

hey, not a problem. I got it in the end didn't I?!  cool.gif

Hmm...from here could I just back everything up and replace the hard drive and have it go right back into EvoX on boot after I copy the backup files over to the new hard drive?

I'm just happy to have gotten this up and running.

I'm retarded though. After ordering the Mega-X Key I realize I can just FTP the game save to my xbox and then onto the memory card. A good $40 down the drain. Oh well.

Assuming you know how to actually install a new HDD (HDD Upgrade "trick") then, yes. You could just copy everything over and it would work as usual.

Remember, this isn't a custom made exploit. This is a general purpose exploit, much like how I am able to add this exploit to my X-Box however many miles away from you, you should also be able to simply copy everything over and it would work as usual.

MY suggestion: Wait until there is an actual fix for the current exploit, seeing as how the F: drive apparently is still not accessible (perhaps I'm doing something wrong? any info would be appreciated).

Let me know either way. I'd like to hear how it turns out for you.

As for spending $40 today.... yeah I feel ya. I FIRST went to my friends house 20 minutes away (meh..) to get his modded X-Box. Then, stopped at Blockbuster to rent 007 ($6.00 right there). Then stopped at a new place around here called "Game Crazy" where I bought a MS brand Memory Unit for $26.00 all together.

Went home, did everything as I described above (though it took me damn long enough)... but I didn't realize that you could press RIGHT when highlighting a game save to choose to COPY it. I was only aware of DELETEING a file.. so I freaked and bought a Action Replay ($39.99)...so I spent about $80.00 today to get this working... but it was to my benefit.

I learned a lot and I got a memory card and action replay out of the deal... kind of like a travelling KEY to unlock all other X-Box's. Poppin' cherries wink.gif
