Well the evox x-chip v1.3 was written for the x-chip and is a core program that can contain many different bioses including the m8 bios if you want to load it into one of the free banks to boot into.
It basically makes use of the 4 mg space available for other alternative boots and doesnt restrict you to only having m8 to boot into, M8 can be an alternative, you should give the bios i try and see how versatile it really is.

Well,
I decided to give the most recent version a go (1.3), so I went ahead and got it from the “usual place”. I fired up X-Control and followed the installation instructions included with the release. Anyways, I finished the flash and then tried to power up the Xbox. It turns on and off twice, and the flashes red and greed lights (maybe yellow as well, not sure though because it flashes pretty quickly). After that I couldn’t boot my Xbox so I decided to flash back to the included Cromwell OS and reload M8+. I did that and it works like a charm. What’s the problem?

Here’s my setup:
1. I am running a v1.4 Xbox
2. X-CHIP
3. Stock HDD
4. X-Control v1.06

And that’s it.

I can’t get it to boot up for the life of me. Could someone help?
Do I need to Load up M8+ in one of the empty BIOS banks as well to make it work?

Thanks,
Slice

I just updated to 1.3 and I went to play a game off my hd and they were all missing, I almost had a heartattack, but remembered that I needed to adjust the LBAmode again in the bios settings lol...

slicemaster, I would try reflashing it again with 1.3 or maybe 1.2, and then see what happens...

If you're using X-Control, don't flash it to a bank.  You need to use the Load Raw-->Save Changes commands from the menu bar.

from what you have stated the most likely cause is a corrupted file, if you are have the 1.4 xbox then make sure you are using the evox_xchip1.3.bin file not the exox_xchipbox1.6only.bin, i assume you unzipped the file you downloaded.
If you have done that try downloading another copy and try that one cos there should be no issues with it not working with your hard drive.

How can I tell if the file is corrupt? What SFV software do you use?
Anyways, I will re-download it from the "usual place" and try it again later today. I will report back then.

UPDATE:

Well,
I just tried it again with re-downloaded files (I also SFV checked them and they were good) and it’s still a no go. It does the exact same thing as before. I have tried everything and it simply doesn’t work. Its got to be a bug because I followed the instructions to a T and made sure the files were good and still is doesn’t work. I’ve all but given up on getting EvoX X-Chip BIOS 1.3 to work. Lost cause I guess? Guess I’ll have to wait for the next version to come out in a few months and try it then and hope it works.

I think Slice solved his problem by removing the USB cable after flashing.

thats correct Grilf, disconectiong the USB cable made all the difference for me. i however had no error codes, i didnt even get audio or video, it just fraged. might want to give it a try jwagman1, could fix you problems too. however a code 5 error code means you harddrive is unlocked and this shouldnt matter if you are running a hacked BIOS. i think you may be booting with the MS BIOS.

This bios doesnt auto-patch games by any chance does it? If it doesnt i guess i can always have another one on a different bank to boot into when i want to backup games to the HD right?
