Hd Swap Method To Install Exploit

Blockbuster...?

Oh... and I did the HDD swap trick on my friends X-Box a while ago (not with this explout obviously... but to do the key hacking thing... yadda yadda.)... it isn't THAT hard... but if I had to choose...

$6.00 (rental of said crappy games... which depending on where you go, will refund it if you bring it back the same day)

OR

2-3 hours of figuring out what to do, downloading new dll's which ALSO are used by your PC which edit the reg files associated with the sys32 cab's (read a manual) and even THEN take a risk of ruining your HDD...

Yeah.. I just found $6.00 in my couch. hrmm....

I've noticed its possible to back up the entire drive, but can you edit that and restore it?  Maybe just to look for long filenames...

Also people having trouble HD swaping perhaps if you went into your pc bios and set whichever IDE interface the xbox HD is connected to to NONE instead of AUTO maybe this could help... I only say this as everytime it detected in my ide startup the app would never work and XP boot took ages!! When it didnt show in the ide detect xp booted as normal and then the HD driver app would work!

Does it let you rename directories?  Theres probably one or two directories on there that aren't needed or are optional.  I'd much rather go with the memory card trick but hard drive swap is my only option.

Oh, and one thing.  Make sure you poweroff your hard drive before you reconnect it to your xbox and turn it on.  If the harddrive is still unlocked, and the xbox tries to unlock it again, you get the green screen o' death.  It sounds like its what you did, might be worth a try to try your changes again.

QUOTE
Requirements:
- Windows 2k/xp installed computer (for TOOGG's prog)
- TOOGG's hdd driver -link-
http://dwl.xbox-scen.../HDD_Driver.zip
- Free-X Exploit Files -link-
http://forums.xbox-s...ST&f=45&t=72553
- EvoX (FreeX) or !Loader (FreeX) - can find it in usual places... (e.g. #xbins)

part 1: unlocking xbox hard drive and connecting it to your windows 2k/xp pc.

Remove any media from the xbox dvd tray
Unplug your pc
Unplug your xbox
Place xbox by pc
Remove covers of both
Unplug any drives connected to your ide (1) channel, leaving your main drive that boots your pc on ide(0)
Unplug the power cable from your xbox to the xbox hard drive
Plug a power lead from your pc into the xbox drive
Plug in your pc
Plug in your xbox
Make sure your xbox is connected to a TV.
Turn on your pc and let it boot fully, watch for the detecting of hard drives.
You may have to first go into the bios of the pc, with F2, Delete, F1 or F!0 depending on the pc bios and look for anything that says fast boot, splash screen and ide detect time and adjust those things so that you can:
A. Actually see the detection process of the hard drives
B. Increase the detection time of the hard drive bios. Some pc's are too fast for some drives to respond instantly. Increasing this time can help.

Now turn on your xbox and boot your xbox and play a game
Now open notepad on the pc
If you cannot do that, you missed something, so go back and try again.

If you can, proceed
Turn off the pc
Turn off the xbox
Plug the ide ribbon from the pc ide (1) into the xbox hard drive.
Turn on the pc and watch for the pc bios to detect the additional hard drive.

If you ONLY see your old main booting hard drive and not the new xbox drive in the boot screen on the pc, then you cannot do this with this pc. Your OS does not matter at all!

If you can see the PC bios detect the additional xbox hard drive, then turn off the pc.
Remove the ide (1) cable and reconnect the xbox ribbon cable to the xbox hard drive,

Power on the pc
Press the "pause/break" button on your pc keyboard right before it detects the hard drives. The pc should stop where it is at and not continue the boot process.
Boot the xbox fully. The xbox should function 100%!!!
Wait 5 mins for the xbox drive to power down
Remove the ribbon cable from the xbox hard drive and then quickly put the ide (1) cable from the pc into the xbox hard drive
Press enter on the pc keyboard. The boot process should continue and see the xbox hard drive.

The xbox drive is now unlocked and accessible by the pc.

part 2: transferring files using TOOGG's prog
*If you run the program without the drive hooked up, it tells you and exits. If the drive is still locked, it crashes.*

"The program supports a backup/restore function which can back up the HDD to an image file, and restore it if the drive gets really messed up. This is the one part of my program I am 99% happy with, you can even listen to mp3's while the operation's going on.
YOU WILL BE SORRY IF THE FIRST THING YOU DO ISN'T BACKING UP A WORKING HDD TO AN IMAGE! The images the app creates are identical to what you can get with Winhex, so if you've already imaged the drive with that, you should be ok.

Because I'm so new to GUI programming, I started with an MFC explorer view. I learned how to do the TreeView 1st, so I figured I'd just put all the functionality there while testing, and move the features over to the list view when I was done. As I mentioned above, this is a point release, so all the functionality is still in the treeview . Simply right click on a file or folder to see a little menu pop up telling you what you can do. A little odd, but pretty self-explanatory."

- rename bert.xtf and ernie.xtf (that are on your xbox hard drive) to bert.xtfbak and ernie.xtfbak
- transfer free-x's font files (bert.xtf and ernie.xtf) into the font folder
- transfer EVO-x(freeX) or !Loader(freeX) into your C: (xbox hd) as well.

<< i'll update it later with more steps, in the mean time, please comment if it works or not >>

[1:27]  z|bandito: ->sabwafare: i wonder if there is stuff in my audio folder since i ripped some cd's
[1:27]  sabwafare: they go in user saves, the audio folder is jsut for the MS dash audio files

He had evidentially renamed the 'audio' folder to accomodate EvoX.

Thanks.  If I can get past the invalid filename size errors, that will be very very useful...  I'm really starting to wonder if theres anything besides hdd_driver to access the xbox hard drive from the pc.  HD swap seems to be my only choice.

If I could do that I'd have bought a modchip.  I cant afford action replay, mega x key, or a modchip.  Heh, no I'm not 10 or anything, I just got laid off.  But yeah, any of those would be 100x easier...

I've got linux but I don't think it can read xfat...  If you know of a guide to getting linux to read the xbox hard drive then I can do it.  I've seen it mentioned that it's possible here but I've never seen how.  I can either try and get gentoo to read it, or one of the distro's that boots off a cd, as long as it can read the xbox file system...
