Something Nobody Has Thought About Maybe...
« on: July 05, 2003, 06:17:00 PM »

Not sure if this'll work (have a modchip myself, so no need to run this), but I thought about the same thing and came up with this idea.  If the dash doesn't check where it's running from, you could you make a subfolder with an untouched copy of the C: drive (pre-cracked, hence just the dash and all its files).  Then, link to that from your menu.  That way, when you load that, it would load the MS dash.  Can't try it myself at the moment cause I can't FTP into my box (not at my house, so no network).

I realized after posting the above that I'd forgotten about boxplorer :-P  Just tested and the dash will run from any location.  Here's what I did:

1) Make a folder called "Dash" (or whatever you want) anywhere on your drive.
2) Copy all the ORIGINAL files from the dash to this folder.  (Remember to put back in the two files that were renamed in the free-x crack).
3) Add a link to this copied dash in the evox.ini.

Alternatively, if you don't want to edit the ini, just make your dash folder in one of the autoadd directories and rename the xboxdash.xbe to default.xbe (so evo will auto-add it).

(FYI, I have an older version of the dash - this may not work with Live-enabled dashes, I'm not sure, but I don't see why it wouldn't).

Hmm I tried this before I posted but I was using the Complex loader and renamed the xboxdash.xbe to default.xbe (seems that complex only looks for default.xbe... maybe I am wrong)  so maybe that was the problem. I will try again now that you said it will work.

I tried e:dash
maybe it needs to be from c:

Complex loader has nothing to do with what is booted first. The bert and ernie files load Default.xbe file that is on C:!

If you want your msdash back to normal remove the bert and ernie files!

Whatup, I know that... what I was trying to do was move the unmodified xboxdash files to e:dash so I could boot that from the complex loader. It appears that the complex loader, when adding menu items, looks for default.xbe in folders so I renamed xboxdash.xbe to default.xbe in e:dash and tried to run it from complex loader - it didn't work.
