Quick How-to To Run Any Homebrew Stuff With Free-x
« Reply #30 on: July 05, 2003, 12:40:00 PM »

Ok got evox running on my unmodded xbox, and noticed that the font files are both on c:  AND c:fonts

which do i rename?

This is what my xbox's dir structure looks like:

c:
<audio>
<fonts>(with XBox Book.xtf and Xbox.xtf inside)
<xboxdashdata.1012a700>
<xodash>
default.xbe (complex loader),(also do i have to run xbedump on this cause it crashes when i try)
evox.ini
settings_adoc.xip
XBox Book.xtf
Xbox.xtf
xboxdash.xbe

Any help appreciated and thanks.

the 2 in the fonts folder and upload new ones in there

is the default.xbe from the complex loader or evox?  if its from the complex loader you seem to be missing some files??  either way you shouldnt need to run xbedump on either.

ok so rename the ones in the font folder and upload the bert ernie fonts there and leave the font files in C: alone?

<edit>
theres files are from the free evox , i left some things out heres the full layout:
c:

<audio>
<fonts>with bert ernie files
<Skin>
<xboxdashdata.1012a700
<xodash>
default.xbe (from the free evox)
evox.ini
settings_adoc.xip
XBox Book.xtf
Xbox.xtf
xboxdash.xbe

This is all i need to do right?  When i reboot it should be at the evox screen?

does anyone else find it scary and sad that people don't know how to use DOS anymore?  I'm not poking fun at said people, but am disappointed in the trend of 'techies.'  I think that if you're ballsy enough to mod your xbox, you should at least know your way around the computer... maybe I'm just overanalyzing the situation, but I don't like it!

hi

ok lets clear up some things!

once u rename                 Xbox.xtf -> Xbox.xtf.backup
                                        XBox Book.xtf -> XBox Book.xtf.backup

then u upload   "bert.xtf and ernie.xtf"  in the same dir where "Xbox.xtf.backup  XBox Book.xtf.backup" are!
do u rename "bert.xtf and ernie.xtf" ?
the free evox is the "default.xbe" that comes with the Dayx.rar ?
when u patch "default.xbe" from a game with xbedump.exe do u get some error in dos prompt ?
i have a modded xbox with a switch so i m just playing around !
but when i shut down my chip i should still be able to boot on my evox ?(if all above is right )

what is the easiest way to be sure of its kernel ?

thx hope it will clear up me and others !!

no you dont rename bert and ernie.
the default.xbe that comes with the dayx.rar will be linux, not evox.
you dont need to patch games when using loader.
if you switch your chip off, providing its installed fine you can boot to evox, you wont have access to your f drive though.

I am a noob. I'm using my friends name on this cause he is at work right now.

I want to try this out. But... just a quick question:

Do I use a cross over cable and FlashFXP to do the FIRST STEP?

It jsut isn't very detailed. The first post states to tansfer files, etc.... but I thought this was only possible with a mod chip or some sort of patched BIOS to accept incoming data @ default over the ethernet port.

So.... do I need a memory card? OR can I just FTP into my X-Box and then follow the instructions after Step 1?

Remember... this is a tutorial. So please help! I've read most of the stuff here... but it jsut doesn't make sense the way people write it.

Greg (K-naledge... this guy who I'm using the name for.) would help me but he's at work now.. and I'm hella anxious to play Metal Slug-X!

Thanks!

Ok, this guide is pointless to me, cause I do not know how to get onto my xbox's harddrive. Could someone explain this?

ok lets clear up some things... I have in mind some steps to do when i get my friends unmodded box (1.00.4817.01)...

1.Open the box and plug the hdd in my PC as Slave (in the primary IDE)
2.Boot the PC in Ms-dos mode and unlock the disk with hddunlock or unlockx
3.Then boot WinXP that i have and with hdddriver rename the font in the c: or c:/font (where they are) and upload the two font that are in dayx.zip
4.After that what? Can i sign with xbedump the evox or whatever default.xbe and when upload it to c: run every time i boot my xbox?? Or  should i use the Free-XEvox?
5.Then can i use the f: drive and how??
6.If i boot evox can i flash the TSOP with a 1MB BIOS?
