Thanks for the reply.

So there is no tool available, that can get the password
- without the use of a modchip
and/or
- without flashing (I don't have a chance to get 007 or MechAssault :-( )

May I ask why you would need a bigger HD without a Modchip(TSOP flash)?
You could put more gamesaves on and more riped cds, is this all you want to do?
Without a workaround like (Modchip, TSOP flash, new .xtf exploit) the xbox would not be able to use the extra space even if you had it.

So your best bet may be to wait and see if a more user-friendly exploit comes along.

Well, in general I'm looking for the same thing as already GIANTNewb metioned in a thread a few posts below:

- set up a new HD with the Free-X exploit so I can use Linux
- do not touch the bios and the original HD since I would like to go live with that xbox by simply swithing harddisks

I always thought, I do not need to patch the bios for using a bigger hd, if that hd would have the same password as the original one. Am I missing something here?

All you want to do is possible but you will need as of now a pc with Linux installed.
Then you prepare and lock the new hd hopefully with the .xtf font files and linux in the right place and away you go.

I've been wanting to do the same thing. Just switch out hard drives when I want to boot linux and voila! I've been looking around all afternoon and I believe there is a way to get the password once you get linux installed. I definately need to do some more searching but I found a reference on the x-box linux site about being able to browse from a computer to your xbox and it will list info about your xbox. I believe this reference said you could view the hd password but I can't find the reference again. Oh well, maybe I'll just have to try it.

It could work like this:

- get the exploit files on your original hard disk & install xbox_micro Linux (see this topic)
- login into your xbox via ssh and copy hddpass to it; execute and hopefully get the password
- prepare new harddrive
- remove exploit from original one

What do you think?

That sounds pretty good to me. I've never done any modding to my xbox yet. I've been thinking of getting a mod chip but don't like the legal aspect (especially having to go on irc to get a bios, I hate irc). I have a spare hard drive that I just might try this on. Linux on my xbox would be great! I just need to find me a computer that will support a 30g hard drive so I can swap. My only pc's are a nice laptop and an **old** dell dimension that only supports up to 8 gig drives.

Ok, I tried for about two hours to get these fu... files onto my xbox hd - but no success so far.

I managed to get the hd recognized in my WinXP System (in device manager) using the swap trick, but I can't find any working win32 tool for copying files to the xbox disk. I tried HDD_Driver, but this tool is quite annoying - it always quit without any error message. I think I give up for today (it's 2am here at my site) and will come back tomorrow...

Please, could anybody give me a tip how to do that??

Ummmm, you need to install linux on your pc to unlock it first. Your thread and mine are very similar.

Ah this is great answered pretty much all of my questions ( for now) Now i think I am just going to wait a bit til the xbe is customized a lil more... can't be to long i am assuming a few days or something

You could always boot the !loader and then you'd see the extra space...if this exploit doesn't already somehow get around this.

if you have evox running.. it usually creates a folder called backup.. it has a file in it with the hd pass
