There has been a lot more hacking/development for Xbox than for PS2.  The PS2 has been out a year longer, and they don't have a software mod yet.  

Why is it so much easier to hack the Xbox?

Was this just a poor design by M$?

The PS2 doesn't have a hard drive either though does it?  So the memery card trick that we have would be useless.  And also, you need a modchip to read the CDs or DVDs that don't have the Sony signed code on them.

So you guys think the PS3 will have similar problems?

Doesn't the PS2 have a HDD add-on?

for one thing... ps2 architecture is much more complex than xbox's.

well for one, the xbox is practically a pc and there are a lot of thing that can be done with it.  The ps2 is just a plain console and all u can do is mod it so that u can play backups and import.

PS2 supports booting programs off the memory card.

There are many tricks on the ps2, however no one has cracked the encryption needed to allow any program to boot directly on the ps2 memory card.  Nor do that many people care I believe.

Since there is a linux kit people who want linux don't have to worry about modchips or anything like that.  Not to mention the fact that you can run pukklink from the linux enviroment that means you don't need a chip to run homebrew programs, for the most part.

, Well ..welll. it seems that the XBOX is gaining more fanfare  now that the eploits r really comming out now. The PS2 does have a hard drive , however no games makes use of it & the xtra cost of the hard drive won't sell to hot in this country. Not when u can go & get a 120gig for about 90-120$ right out of the store. The reason the Xbox is so hot is because of the Hard Drive & the ease of use to make a program for it. The PS2 was hacked/cracked as soon as it was released in Japan. Not to mention the games were already ripped & uploaded to various sites on the web. With a PS2 mod installed I can Rent or barrow a game; Put in my DVD drive (reader) a blank(DVD-R) in my Recorder (a Sony Product) & record directly to my burner. I don't  really have to have a PS2 in my possession to do this. Now with a xbox, U must have an xbox to read an ORIGINAL. I know.. that these games can be downloaded, but i can rent,rip, record a PS2/XBOX game in no time @ all. Listen 2 logic .

1. Which is easier 2 program 4?  PS2 r XBOX ?
2. Which is easier 2 mod ? PS2 r Xbox ?
3. Which can run more Emulators ? PS2 r Xbox ?
4. Which can be constantly upgraded/updated ? PS2 r Xbox ?

As u can see the Xbox is a better choice in the matter.  Now how many companies (Games/Business) use M$ windows to run their programs? Just about every Game Company (Sony included ) uses M$ Software to develop their products. So, when the XBOX came out, everybody new the code was Windows Based (duh).  So what of the xbox vs pS2 hacks. The PS2 2 me is no challenge as far as the hacks go.  There's no more u can do with a ps2 than compared with the Xbox.
