You're All A Bunch Of Eediots
« on: July 04, 2003, 03:10:00 AM »

Too many post oh this is the end of the xbox, mourn it an early death.

For me actually this hack is the birth of the xbox for those of us who aren't hardened pirates and really do only use their xbox for xbmp (And emu's although all my roms are from originals) this changes everything.

Who cares if M$ stop supporting the xbox if they did then are they really going to be bothered about illegally compiled binaries I think not.

Xbox savage go back to pirating every game ever and then judging people by your own actions it suits you.

You sir, are a fool.

Lets draw you a scene:

Jimmy: Hey did you hear you can mod your xbox without opening it now
Johnny: Oh, so its easier?
Jimmy: Yeah, much easier
Johnny: What does it let you do?
Jimmy: You can get games for like $5
Johnny: OMFG"111!2!1"!!!

*Jimmy and Johny do this, tell more friends cycle continues*

Basically, normal (Dont wanna say lam0rs  tongue.gif ) gamers would prefer to buy a game that functions in the same way for $5 rather then $50, that is basic economics. Only about 30% or so of gamers have the foresight to look at what this might do to develepors etc.

The people who actually care about emulators and applications will already have their xbox modded.

Well the Scene you drew is pretty accurate, however it already exists...
you can get XB games ffrom 5 bucks...here are lots of places that sell em online as well as stores in Thailand, South Korea, Taiwan, HK, etc...

the sad thing is economics usually win in the end...but I hope there are enough people out there that buy the actual software, so we can keep getting new ones in the dev loop.

Before comparing myself to a fool actually read what I write.

who cares if M$ scrap the xbox and stop supporting it that just means cheap xbox's and less heat for developers.

You children might only be interested in playing games but I don't play new xbox games (Except nightfire, halo & soul calibur 2 all of which are originals soul calibur cost me £70)
so I don't care if they scrap it.

XBMP and emu's are the only thing that holds my attention.

Anyways for those of us who got to see half life 2 at E3 we know pc gaming is the way forward.

I guess you're new to the scene or you would realise that you can buy backups now if you want easily occasionaly in the buy & sell section of this forum.

The hassle needed to implement this hack is beyond the average consumer and surely xbox live will stop you're xbox working. (Updated dash)

M$ business model is xbox live and always was anyone who doesn't see that is basically a bigger fool than me.

Pirating games hasn't killed the pc or psx (In it's prime), it didn't even kill the amiga so why is it going to kill the xbox.

Piracy didn't kill the DC, Sega did that.

The suggestion that anyone interested in XBMP or emu's already have a chipped xbox well that's to say that all new xbox purchases would be game only orientated and that everyone in the world who's interested in the xbox for homebrew has already bought one. No new people could possibly be interested could they?

I hope M$ do drop the xbox then I can buy 5 of them dirt cheap for xbmp purposes.
Remember buying 3 DC's for £40 when Sega droppped it.

I hate the elitist attitude people have with regards to the xbox. I am not going to slag the system, because its been getting my full attention as of late (which is odd, I sort of only bought my xbox because I had money at the time). But people seem to think that because they love the xbox so much, piracy should NEVER happen on it (ok, fine, that sounded a bit bad. It shouldnt, but it does). How many people in the other console scenes do you see sitting around bitching about piracy. There is almost no legitimate reason to OWN a modchip for a PS2 (I'll use the PS2 for my examples), besides backups. The whole homebrew/dev scene for it is next to nothing. The MAIN reason for modchips on other consoles is almost all about piracy, legitamized with crap about "backing up software".

The possible increase in piracy people think is going to happen, wont. Piracy is going to happen irregardless. Modchips already aide this function. This exploit is just a new way to do it. If you think about how much it costs to actually USE these exploits, and for some, the problems that might arise because they are too stupid to actually get the exploit working. Its almost as viable, if not more (cheapmods anyone) to buy a modchip.

This whole Jimmy/Johnny thing (I'll just be localized here) mentioned in this thread is already happening. Slightly different then what was actually said (in the example), but it is happening. Most people who own xboxes also own computers. Most of those computer users have the Internet, and a good portion of them have broadband connections. Getting pirated games is already easy. The means to play the games is already easy. I would be surprised if most people who do homebrew stuff for xbox havent been around for other consoles (lets use Sony here again). How many people learned of modchips from word of mouth? Friends (online friends as well)? Its happening, and already is. "Hey man, I just found a modchip for my xbox that cost me 10 bucks! I can download all the games I want!".

End rant.

Let's be real, we've all copied at least a couple of games in the past, or downloaded of the net. Its just that when slimy little f**kers start selling pirated games on CD/DVD-R for profit it really burns me up.

That's not even the worst part... it's my (general) understanding that people selling pirate games in this country are "taxed" by terrorists.

I realise this is a very small rant and doesn't make a very solid point but at least I got my two cents in.

Anyways for those of us who got to see half life 2 at E3 we know pc gaming is the way forward.

I just wanted to point out briefly that PC gaming is DEFINATLY not the way foward. As the gap between consoles and decently high performace gaming pc's closes , consoles win becuase of thier pirce range (a 200 dollar Xbox is the "most bang for the buck" PC based gaming system possible).

Also as we see the next generation of consoles emerging you will notice how many PC like functions they will have (standard keyboards and mice, Tivo like functionality ECT ECT).

Consoles are going to become generic home computers with a heavy emphasis on game playing. User friendly as all hell, consoles are going to be the all-in-one home PC's of the future.

Dont get me wrong I am not saying the PC gaming comunity is going to die... I am just saying its going to consist of the same people that are in it now.... The people who are technically adept enough to enjoy the quirks and jerks of playing games on a PC.

I never said there wasnt homebrew on the PS2, I am saying that the scene is nothing compared to the xbox homebrew scene.
