How Rampant Will Piracy Really Be?
« on: July 04, 2003, 01:27:00 AM »

Considering that modifying your backup files in the first place requires some coding knowledge, and the odds would be in favor of that geek going for an actual mod chip instead of this technique I'd say very little.

Not only that, but I doubt that the 12 year olds who are more likely to try cheating than anyone else won't have the knowledge in order to mess around with the code.

I'd say that cheating on Xbox Live will honestly be less than .01 and your odds of running into that person are very slim. Are we getting worked up over nothing?

The biggest fault I see coming from this will be the inevitable "OMFG U R CHEATING WTF" from idiots who know it's at least possible.

EDIT: FUCK I MEANT HOW RAMPANT WILL CHEATING ON XBOX LIVE BE FUCK

Well IMO I think it would be people a little older than 12 because most 12 year olds I know dont know shit about modding xbox because most of them are not messing with a computer thier out hanging out with thier buddies spending most of thier time outside and not on a pc. I think the 17-up age group would be more likely to take up on this more.

Once someone gets the new hack running arbitrary unsigned .xbe's, someone will most likely create an installer for it using the 007 exploit.

Then there'll be a 'software mod chip' chat can be installed, without opening the box, with a copy of 007 and the right memory card. No soldering or TSOP flashing required.

But of course you need to know someone that has a modded box, to get the 007 save onto a memory card.  (And if you know someone with a modded box, you've probably already bought a chip after being wowwed by XBMP!)

I don't think Live cheating will become a problem. The mod will be easy for MS to detect (via a game or XBL dashboard). XBL users will probably have their dashboards patched to prevent this exploit...
