Looks Like We Have A Winner For Xbox Linux

How are you supposed to get the files on the HDD without a mod?

You still need to use the 007 method to get the files on there... so I really don't think they accomplished that much...

I couldn't disagree more.  They've done everything (my favourite word today) that is neccesary to claim the prize.  They have released a method that doesn't require opening up your XBOX to do anything and is permanent.  I would surely think that this alone has enough merit.

Anyway, it's not "a mod", it's an exploit.  Mega-X Key only works in the same way as a standard XBOX memory card (except it allows you to upload to it from a PC) and with 007/MechAssault, you've got all you need.  Neither of these can be considered a "mod".  Sure, together they can be used to circumvent the XBOX's protection, but this is most definately a mod free solution smile.gif

I agree. It is a no-open-box solution.

Hmm. I wonder what kind of implications this will start?

Will every T,D and H be able to mod and bootleg the X? If so, then problems-are-a-coming. huh.gif

That's what I believe too...

However, I do suppose this qualifies for the Xbox Linux prize... but I can't see myself using this anytime soon. I mean, what can you really do with it? Run backups on LIVE (for a VERY short time...)? Doesn't sound worth it to me...

Give me a $12 Cheapmod over this anyday...

Don't get me wrong... I totally respect the work and effort they put into this, but I myself don't think it's that great.

It is really just more of a pain to do this process then it is to install a modchip... so why bother? Plus, (unless you use it to flash your TSOP) it doesn't even have all the features of a modchip (i.e... HDD upgrade, etc...).

I suppose it could be useful for people who are too afraid to open their Xbox (yet somehow gain the courage to f#ck around with the dashboard files  dry.gif ) who want to run Linux, but other than that... I really don't see a use...

I guarantee some little entrepaneur will be selling a kit in the next 5 to 10 days.

What you get your choice of mech assault or 007 and one memory cartridge already installed (maybe even a linux distro on a CD as well)

You load your choice of game and your done. You aslo have a new game and a new mem cart you know longer need.

Hmmm you could rent the whole kit out ?????

this combined with something similar to the complex loader, that actually patches the kernel in ram, would be a true 'no open box' solution... of course, a $20~$35 game and $30 memcard costs more than a mod.... but the type of people who would use such a potential mod are the type that bought matrix even though it was expensive because it was 'no solder'...
