Refresher On Available Dashes For Softmod
« on: January 31, 2011, 03:57:00 PM »

I have 5 softmodded and 1 hardmodded xbox that I still use regularly.

My friend wants me to mod his kid's xbox. He's already told me they love to brick everything they touch,if it has a menu, so I'm trying to figure out the best menu/loader to use.

I seem to remember being able to use the msdash once its modded to load backup games, but maybe that was for hard modded consoles? Basically, I think I'd like to use a kid friendly menu that doesnt have the mod options on it, preferably the stock msdash or a mod dash that looks just like it. If need be a stripped down evox menu would work in a pinch.

i'll be using the same old splinter cell softmod I've always used, that installs unleashx on the box I believe.

just make it dual boot with XBMC on the power button and M$dash on the eject button. then switch the skin on XBMC to JX720. once you have done that, erase any apps that could do potential damage. XBMC is very user friendly, and i cant think of many setting that could really be made to brick the machine. the worst the kid could do is mess up the network settings. the skin i mentioned has an option for turning off any buttons you dont want on thr main pages, so you can get rid of file explorer and such.
to install a dual boot, get a copy of Krayzies extras. you can find it on xbins with his exploit package. it has options for dual or tri booting and dashboard changing. then when your done using it. erase it off the HDD so the kid cant use it.

All Xbox dashboards have some potentially "dangerous" options available, and the best you can do is to remove them from the configuration. On that basis UnleashX is about as good as it gets. The menu can be edited to remove any potentially dangerous options, but it still retains a similar interface to the original MS Dash - especially if you pick a skin that looks like the original MS Dash.

For the softmod, Krayzie 1.1.1 or Kingroach NDURE 3.1 both provide shadow C and virtual eeprom with no need for any further configuration, so you should start there.

i think spliff has got it. I hadnt thought about that. My 'hack pack' has the krayzie extras already. XBMC sounds great, never seen that skin, I'll check it out.

Thanks everyone.

JX720 is a new skin. it is a revamp of the MC360 skin, but less cluttered and sharper looking. find it on XBMC4XBOX.com
