Read Fatx File System So I Can Simply Transfer Hacked Save Data
« on: February 10, 2010, 09:19:00 AM »

Is there a program that let's me read the FATX file system from Windows or Linux so I can simply put my Xbox hard drive into my computer and copy the Splinter Cell hacked save data that way? I don't want to buy a new memory card or ruin my Xbox controller. I just want to simply copy save data to the Xbox hard drive without buying anything.

If I put the Xbox hard drive into my computer, it doesn't even recognize it. I really want a free way to do it.  happy.gif I WILL buy any software that I need though.

nope!

get a data card or do a hotswap!  hotswap will be the best way to do it on the cheap.  compile and burn your mod disc, hotswap your drive to unlock it in your pc, then let the disc do its work.

have fun!

Yes - xplorer360 beta 6 will do it, but you'll need to hotswap your disk to unlock it first.

As an alternative to hotswapping (which is slightly risky) you might want to consider using xplorer360 beta 6 with an Xbox to USB adapter and a standard USB stick. It's cheaper than a memory card, and doesn't require you to hack about with your controller.

not sure how much that is but you can make those things pretty easy the hard part is finding a compatible flash drive.

You might wanna read up on doing the hotswap install its actually the cheapest way to go

You can always get exchange rates from Google. Current rate is around $1=£0.63.

If that's the US delivered price for the adapter I linked to, you can also get Xbox to USB adapters on ebay, already priced in dollars....... smile.gif

I Googled the hotswap method and it showed me that in order for it to work you have to unlock the hard drive. This can be done by simply copying a music CD to the Xbox hard drive using the standard M$ dash.

What if I just copied some music to my hard drive and then used explorer360 to copy the Splinter Cell hack to the hard drive? Then I could just run the hack from the Splinter Cell game and have a modded Xbox pop.gif

I know you guys are experts and I don't fully understand this so don't get mad if this is the stupidest thing ever.  wink.gif It's just an idea I had.

If it was that easy do you think someone wouldn't have already tried it?  rolleyes.gif  Copying music to your hard drive doesn't unlock it. Playing then pausing music sometimes does. Best method for softmod via hotswap is described here.

I will try the simpler explorer360 method first.

Do I have to pause the song and then unplug the power or just pause the song and press back?

EDIT: oh I see... You have to play music, pause it, disconnect the hard drive from the Xbox and connect it into your computer. And be sure to make sure the HD is running off your computer's power supply. When it is in your computer, run explorer360 and copy the hacked save data. Is that what I do?

If you disconnect the power from the drive it will re-lock it. Swap the IDE cable. Make a jumper wire from the Xbox to the PC to try to avoid frying one or both. Hot swapping is risky.

Watch these two videos. They should help you out.

Instead of just swaping the IDE cable and opening my computer, can I use an IDE to USB cable instead?

Also, what do I atatch the jumper cable to? Do I do it from my PC outer case to the metal frame in my Xbox?

what version xbox do you have any way?

I don't know what version my Xbox is. How do you tell? Is there a way without installing a custom dash? Even I HAD a custom dash (that's what this whole thread is about, right?) I wouldn't be asking how to get it in the first place because I would be able to tell by checking the settings.  rolleyes.gif

But I do know that I have the 58xx MS dash or something close.
