Xbox Freezing
« on: January 06, 2004, 11:54:00 PM »

Well it all started after (I'll make it quick): In car, slam breaks, xbox on seat, xbox quickly to floor. Directly after this I would be lucky to play 5 minutes of any game until my box freezes. Eventually the problem seems to cease, only doing it once a week maybe. Now it's starting to do it again and I need to know what the hell the problem is. Nothing is loose from I can tell and when I press the eject button it reboots back to my dashboard. So I don't know if it's the HD, mobo, gpu or what. Any suggestions?

open it up and look at the fan, it might have broken a blade and got stuck or something.

And now my xbox has completely shit its pants. Doesn't read anything from the DVD drive either. Not the DVD because I replaced it. Mobo possibly?

My xbox is doing the exact same thing, minus the dropping it part.  It was working fine, but now it is freezing while playing a game (usually within a few minutes) or it freezes during the flubber. I have re-adjusted the clock, tried with 80 gig seagate drive and with stock hard drive, both freeze. Ive tried removing my mod, (its a crap matrix and yes I have realligned it several times) and without the mod my xbox frags red/green with the reboots (even with stock hard drive.)  Both my fans appear to be working correctly.  I'm pretty sure both my drives are good too, since my xbox freezes even without a hard drive attached (I cant even get to the error screen telling me my drive cant be located) Is my mobo bad? Is that hard to replace? sad.gif I have evox m7 on my mod, and I have reflashed it 2x, so I dont think its a bad flash (and it had been working perfectly for a long time, so I doubt its a bad bios.) Anyone know if the mobo is bad (as asked above) and is that costly/hard to replace? Ive been wondering whether I should just buy a new box, but Im poor and I dont wana just sell my broken one on ebay (im not a bastard)
This is very frustrating.

I don't want to sound like a conspiricy theorist but this is exactly what happened yesterday to me. Just after I had signed up for live... I haven't used live except with the standard BIOS ie mod disabled but I'm still banned. From what I've read this isn't meant to happen. Have MS found new detection methods?

Oops, I found the reason I'm banned. My game profile was the same as my XBL profile name. Should have read the forums more  tongue.gif
Off to find a new Eeprom....Mmm that crystal UK box looks nice   biggrin.gif

btw. If it is the HD is there a way to fix it without formating and reloading? Mine sounds like there are some bad blocks.

What I think is the most strange about it, the flubber (I dont know how you call it) the screen when and before the Xbox logo appears and fades into whatever game inserted or dashboard installed, freezes to. And when I disconnect my HD the flubber still appears (and freezes). This info tells me that the "power on animation" actually isn't on the hard drive but maybe on the chip (bios) itself or somewhere else on the mobo. When i first had this problem I thought it where bad clusters to. But come to think of it if it really is the HD that is f***** then what's the story about freezing while playing a game... Should all my games turned bad aswel. It turnes me crazy (almost as crazy as I would be when i can't play my precious box...

If someone has any idear or clue of what's wrong with my baby please tell me. Even if it's a logical guess so I can explore... I dont have the money for a new box and I'm really going crazy.

Thanks to all the readers of this forum, you've helped me out several times and much respect 2 all of you.

Greetings,
Troy

Ok this is a wild guess.
I've read Foot x's problem (http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=169991) and noticed that he has an 1.1 xbox aswell. I was wondering if capninsano and the other one's with this problem have the same version xbox? Maybe it's a bug in the kernel or something .. Really guessing here not sure about anything. I tried a lot of things. Without hd, checked my fan, without dvd drive and hd etc etc.. It's not a moving part... Im sure about that. And what do you think is there a way to repair or should I safe money for a new one??

What temperatures do you get?  I'm guessing that one or both heatsinks shifted, and so your box is overheating and locking up...although isn't it supposed to flash the power LED orange if it overheats?

I have a 1.0, and my xbox freezes during the flubber even with no hard drive attached (i have tried with 2 drives as well.) I was wondering about the overheating issue, in my evox dash it lists the temps, and when it actually DID boot the dash, they were always cool. I tried leaving my xbox unplugged for a day, and then I plugged it back in and it still froze after like 2 seconds. I dont think its a heat issue. :/

so many of us seem to be having the same problem :/

ive never gotten a yellow screen when i used to freeze, everything would just stop, i think the sound would stop, and any vibrating controllers would be in constant vibrate. If i opened the tray, sometimes it would go back to the dash, altho it would usually freeze up at the dash within a couple seconds.

I removed my mod this morn (noob matrix woot), and my xbox does the on/off reboot on/off reboot followed by the RED led. There is no video signal with or without the stock HD (only get video signal with my mod in, but ill only see a tiny green blob which freezes instantly). isnt there usually an error screen when the hard drive is not present without a mod?  my dvd rom will not open unless i am booting with my mod. I checked the mobo, I thought I may have scratched a point but the mobo seems to be in perfect condition.  I havent flashed the tsop or anything and all the parts appear to be fine when i look at them.

maybe the ram sticks died or something :/
