Can anyone give me a good n00b-friendly softmod tutorial that involves action relpay max & the splinter cell game save exploit? also is there any n00b-friendly tutorial on installing a larger HDD?.

I've  finally gotten my hands on an Xbox, and i've always wanted to have it softmodded, however i seen countless tutorials and I've felt that many of them are either outdated or missing something.
Here's what i have so far:
-xbox
-splinter cell

what I'm getting for the mod:
action replay max

after i finish the softmod i plan on getting a bigger HDD. here's the HHD i plan on getting-
amazon

now i have a couple questions-
-is there any way to add files to the xbox hard drive besides FTP?
(and how DO you add files by FTP?)
-what installer is recommended?
-does there exist a USB to Xbox adapter so i could use an external HDD to transfer files or use a USB game pad?
-how do you give the xbox an IP address for FTP?
-what free programs do you recomend for the FTP and IRC?

Reading before you post is always a good idea. Your question about how to softmod with Splinter Cell was asked and answered in the post two before yours - here. Ldotsfan has a guide to updating hard drives on softmodded Xboxes in his signature, so a bit more searching will help you there

You can use FTP, or burn CDs / DVDs to transfer files.

The Xbox will only recognise USB devices of 4GB or less.

You configure the IP address from the dashboard. Using DHCP is easiest.

Filezilla is a good open source ftp client.
