the first thing you should check is the version of the xbox.
1.6 and 1.6b models sometimes behave different.

If I was you, I would try the krazy ndure game exploit. It's more recent and more stable.

I would also recommend trying a different softmod installer.

Softmod Installer Deluxe (SID) 5.1 has always worked for me.
