My apology for my n00bness, but I just bought an old XboX and I want to run XBMC (and play backed-up games) on it. I still want to play orignal games on disc, because I have avout 9-10 games on CD.

So what is the best option for me? I see a lot of techniques, Hot Swapping, something with the game Splintercell, somthing with FTP etc...

I want to play original games on disc and run XBMC & backed-up games (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hot swap or Splinter cell method will do what you want. Your xbox will still load games if you pop them into the drive, and it will load XBMC if the drive is empty.

Splinter cell is the easier method, but requires a few things, such as splinter cell and a memory card with the save files on it. The hot swap method would be easiest for someone who just has a PC with IDE connections and an xbox.

Thanks, I read the topics about hotswapping and I think it will do...

But can you explain me what these things are?
nDure,evox etc... I'm new to the console-scene so I don't have a clue tongue.gif

What are the main differences between the dashes? And can all dashes do what I want to do (run apps, run games, run original games on disc)

well basically they are different dashes. They will all cover the basics, but some delve into more specific areas, so over time (depending on your interests) you will use a number of different ones.

Ndure is a handy one when hotswapping: you can FTP to it, and its got a nice file browser. From this I FTPd XBMC onto my xbox's.

Ive mainly mucked around with XBMC and its run all the Apps, games etc ive thrown at it. If I choose to run a game off a disk, i pop open the dvd tray, and put the disk in. Once it closes it autoloads the disk as normal. If I want to run a not so legal copy of a game, I use the "programs" channel on XBMC and set its source to F:\games. In that folder I put my games (ie. F:\Games\Halo 2\<files for halo 2 go here>).
Then my apps channel will have an icon for Halo 2 and when i select that, it loads the game. Similar scenario for any apps u want to use.

All dashes should load .xbe files, which you will find on a game CD or on a game backup as a default.xbe file. So if you put ndure on your xbox, and load up the filebrowser on ndure, you should be able to navigate your way to the default.xbe file and load the app/game.

NDURE isn't a dashboard ( (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) ), it's an exploit used to give you control over your Xbox to run your own software. Kingroach NDURE 3.1 and Krayzie 1.1.1 softmod packages both use it. You don't need to worry about it at this stage, just be happy that it exists and that it works well.

The dash Black_Knight is talking about is UnleashX, and it's a good one to start with. It's the one that Kingroach NDURE 3.1 installs, and one of the two dashes that Krayzie's gamesave softmod package installs. It will do everything you need.

Kingroach NDURE 3.1 is the package you'll use to install a softmod via hotswapping.

Thanks man, I'm reading a topic about his NDURE 3.1 installer. I see, when I'm install the Retail Setup, I'm able to boot into MS' Dash with the Eject-button? That would be very nice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

So, I think this is what I have to do:

Get XboxHDM
Get Kingroach NDURE 3.1
Let NDure install in xboxhdm
Boot from the just-made xboxhdm disc
Run ndure
Backup the HD's C:
Install Ndure
Turn off PC/XboX
Put the HD back
Ready?
Then I can FTP or something and put a new dash and all the shit onto my XboX?

so instead for directly run ndure from xboxhdm, I have to rebuild the C: partition first? Why is that? To upgrade it to the newest version or something? I want to know every step you know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

My bad, its been a while since ive done the auld hotswap method. ndure leads to unleash, hence the confusion.

I've downloaded AID 4.5, where can I use that for? I read the AID manual and it smeems to be that this is an installer for different dashes and apps? Can't I use thit directly or do I have to do the steps I've posted above?

You can't use AID for anything on a softmod, apart from installing apps. Avoid it until you know what you are doing.
