I don't understand - why are you trying to get an error 12? Have you tried replacing the IDE cable? Is xbox already softmodded or you are attempting to softmod it? Do you have eeprom backup (to PC)?

You are missing a lot of details in your post. The more details on what exactly you were trying to accomplish the better - otherwise those helping you are left guessing and the quality of assistance suffers as a result.

Is what your trying to say is that you Unlocked Your HDD after you softmodded and now it doesn't work? Thats probably because only chipped xboxs can use unclocked hard drives. If you have a softmod then you need to lock the HDD to the xbox you are using with the eeprom. So if you where the one who locked it then you should have the eeprom on disc or somewhere cause you must have used xboxhdm or something to lock it. If thats the case you should be able to connect the HDD to your computer and relock it with the software you used to lock it before. Correct me if I'm wrong people its just been a while since I've done it myself.

Edit:

Or after reading your post a bit more thoroughly it seems like its your xbox that is having problems not the HDD, so why do you need to unlock your xbox HDD? What did you do to make your xbox act like it does? Also you may be able to unlock your drive with the software you used to lock it before.
