Quick Noob Questions
« on: August 13, 2009, 02:16:00 AM »

So i dug up my old xbox and want to softmod it

Quick read and just want to know if this is all right and some questions
  • I should use Krayzie's Ndure Installer v1.1.1
  • I have Mech Assualt but does it matter when i got it from? It's not the greatest hits one
  • Where can i get a action replay these days?
  • Can the xbox read it's files/backups off of my external hard thats hooked up to my laptop?
  • What's the cleanest shell i can use after softmodded to run as a media player?
  • Can I use the action replay memory card or do i need the offical one?

thanks guys, don't flame me because i know these probably have been answered before

1. Yes, Krayzie 1.1.1 is by far the best gamesave exploit
2. Have a look here
3. You don't need Action Replay. Xplorer360 beta 6 is easier to use, and doesn't require drivers.
4. Yes for media files, but not games.
5. Use UnleashX to start with until you get the Xbox set up, with XBMC as an application. Once you're happy with the setup and know what you're doing you can switch to XBMC as your dash.
6. I've never used an AR card, but I have a few third party ones, and they all work well. You can also use a USB stick (trial and error - not all of them work, and it must be <4GB) with an adapter like this

Thanks for replying Heimdall!
So this is the rundown, btw is there a stickied guide for this?
  1. Get a XBOX to PC cord
  2. Use Xplorer360 and Krayzie 1.1.1 to install the exploit to my USB stick
  3. Connect my USB stick to the XBOX to PC Cord
  4. Pop the game and let the magic happen?

I also want to run backups via hard drive and since you can't remote access, can you use the XBOX to pc cord to hook up my external hard drive and it'll read off that? Or is the only way (hard drive wise) through the internal one.
Sorry, more into the psp hacking scene but wanna play these classics again

Yes, xbmc can also launch games. It's a fully functional dashboard.

The xbox only recognises some usb disk devices that are smaller than 4GB.
The xbox m$dash will format such a device to the xbox fatx file format without a warning.
So, you can't use your external harddisk.
Most people use ftp to transfer stuff between their pc and the xbox.
It just requires a network connection between the 2.

regards.

Focus on getting to the first stage - getting the xbox to a modded state. Installing XBMC as a dash isn't difficult - once the xbox is modded. It's a variant of this method. Either E:\dash or E:\dashboard.
