My real question is that I want to install a bigger hard drive. Do I need to do this before or after running the exploit? What is the biggest size HD that the Xbox will recognize when softmodded with the game save exploit? What physical size HD is in the Xbox (I have not purchased the torx stuff to open it yet to see for myself), is it 3.5" desktop size or 2.5" laptop size?
Let it be understood that I have absolutely ZERO interest in maintaining any Xbox Live functionality. I have been getting confused about the locking/unlocking hard drives, and from what I gather it is just to keep Live from banning you.
1. The stock xbox hdd is locked to the xbox's eeprom hdd key, hdd model and serial no. Softmods don't alter this fact - with or without Live. So you need a lockable hdd. Check this
list2. 3.5" IDE interface.
3. With LBA48 support in the softmod and xbpartitioner 1.1, the theoritical limit is 1TB. Not sure if you can locate an IDE hdd of that size. Mixed results with bigger SATA hdd and an SATA-IDE adapter:
