My 5th Softmod, Having Trouble.
« on: February 02, 2020, 05:44:00 PM »

Hi,
I think I'm forgetting something here that is causing me these problems. I've done this softmod many times before and I'm now just having trouble with booting from the HDD.

Here's what I did:

0- Made backups and created eeprom and the HDD unlock info.
1- I used xboxhdm_v1.9 to create the ISO file and boot into the linux VGA tools and initialized the disk and locked it.
2- installed it in the Xbox and booted  "Slayers Evox 2.7" FINAL (I created the ISO and added my eeprom.bin)
2a- Normally (according to my notes that I usually make as my setups evolve) I would pick option 3 in slayers setup to "NEW INSTALL / FULL REBUILD"
2b- Change Startup Dash.

Now the problem is that I can't get the xbox to boot from the HDD, I get err 21. I have gone back thru the setup and tried different options, like kept the dash at the default.

I can access the xbox via FTP and I can see the files, except for C: which is hidden and I forget for the moment how to unhide it.

What do you guys think the problem is?

Best Regards

The problem is that you're using Slayers on a softmodded Xbox, even though the instructions warn you not to!

Here's a better process:

Build your xboxhdm disk using the stock C from Slayers / AID, and Kingroach NDURE 3.1. Put the stock C in linux/C, and the Kingroach 3.1 files in linux/ndure (the Kingroach C and E directories and the ndure script should be immediately below this i.e. linux/ndure/C/ and linux/ndure/E/.) Put eeprom.bin in /linux/eeprom/

Run xboxhdm, select option 1 - boot VGA Console, then type xboxhd, then select option 2 - Rebuild C partition on existing Xbox drive. Once that has finished exit, then type xbrowser, run the ndure script, then select option 1. Exit the ndure script. Reboot the PC, select option 4 and type lockhd -a to lock the disk

Now put the disk in your Xbox, and it will boot the softmod. FTP XBPartitioner 1.1 to the E partition (put it in E:\Apps\). Run XBPartitioner 1.1, and use it to format your F/G partitions.

FTP the stock C (from Slayers) to the shadow C (which will be empty). Your softmod is now complete and your disk is formatted and ready to go.

To change the dash you have to copy the dash you want into E:\dash\ and rename it default.xbe. If you want XBMC as a dash you can install it in E:\Apps\, and put the shortcut and its cfg file in E:\dash\, renamed default.xbe and default.cfg.

You can follow Heimdall's advice above. But, what I am wondering is how you are getting the eeprom to begin with. What package are you using? Krazie's Ndure?

What happens when you put the HD in the Xbox and don't run Slayer's?

Here is how I do a softmod.

Put the game save on the Xbox. Use Krazie's Ndure 1.1.1.

Run the softmod and back up the eeprom. Stop there. FTP the C and E drives to the PC.

Put the C and E Drive files in the Xboxhdm folders with the eeprom in the eeprom folder.

Build the new HD and lock it.

Put the new HD in the Xbox and run the softmod again. This time you run the complete softmod.

Put Xbpartitioner1.1 on the Xbox and format the F and G drives.

I never have a problem doing a softmod this way.
