Possible Bricked Xbox Help (splinter Cell Exploit)

You have to disconnect the pc dvd drives, the dvd drive i did not disconect was the one in the xbox.
I think you need two ide ports available one for the pc hard drive and one for the xbox hard drive.
Is it not that you just have one cable is there not another port there. Also just to clear up, if you are looking when i said ide 1 and ide 2 it's actually marked as ide 0 and ide 1 on your motherboard. Is your primary hard drive a serial ata hard drive and not an ide ata hard drive is that why you only have one ide port.

Yes, setting the pc dvd drive to slave is a problem. A slave ide device needs the electronics of the master ide device to operate properly.

So, you better try to find an old pc somewhere with 2 ide ports.

My primary drive is IDE and my secondary SATA, my motherboard is maybe a year old so only came with one IDE socket on the mobo (presumably becuase SATA is now taking over). As obcd suggested I'll have to locate a PC with two ide ports then.

If you are hotswapping, you can get qemu or vmware to get around the problem of insufficient IDE connections. Check my sig for the thread on use/ide adapter for details. You just need to modify it for your situation.

1.6 xboxes unlock their harddisk on other moments than the previous models.

There are several tricks to hotswap the harddisk once it's unlocked.
If xboxhdm says that the disk is locked, it probably is the case.

I'm having issues with this hotswap technique, by the looks of it my Xbox HD is still locked. My Xbox is a v1.6. I'm getting error 16 when I boot and would like to fix but I don't think that the "removing the ide cable from the DVD rom drive" trick works with v1.6 xbox's. At what times does the xbox HD get unlocked on theses machines. Note that I am only getting the flubber, the Xbox logo, then straight into error 16 when I boot, no white MS Logo. Games will not load either.  I'm fairly confident that I am performing the hotswap technique correctly, it's just not working for me as I believe the drive is still locked when it is connected to the computer.
