Possible Bricked Xbox Help (splinter Cell Exploit)
« on: February 03, 2020, 08:58:00 AM »

I stupidly deleted my dash file via FTP so I just get the Service Required message on boot. The Xbox will boot directly to games so I'm hoping to just reinstall the linux profile through splinter cell. The Linux profile is on a memory card plugged in to my controller, should Splinter Cell read the memory card saves as well as those on the hard drive? Splinter Cell doesn't show any saved games apart from if I save a profile in the game (basically not displaying Linux profile like I think it should be).

I'm pretty sure I've done this before and found a way out, I've double checked the Linux profile is on the memory card using my mates hardmodded box (I transferred everything in the UDATA  folderof the Softmod Installer Deluxe v2.0over to the memory card)

If you can't see the Linux game save you are going to have to fix the problem by putting the HD in the PC. You can unlock it with the eeprom.bin file you backed up to the PC or hotswap if you didn't back up.

your softmod may still be working just not your dash try and boot a backup game if that works then get slayers and see if you can get ftp then just put the dash back

1. Did you delete xboxdash.xbe or your dash like unleashX/Evox/XBMC ?
2. Did you ever delete away the SC gamesave from the xbox hdd?
3. Did you ever backup eeprom.bin to PC?

like steveo mentioned if you just deleted your dash you should still be able to boot burnt discs and therefore fix it via ftp.

Color of LED before service screen?

If you have deleted xboxdash.xbe, hotswapping might be the only way since you don't have eeprom backup. What is the error no of the service screen?

Frostys disc instructions say to boot the xbox then put the CD in, in which case nothing happens and the service screen remains showing. Booting the xbox with the CD in, the xbox runs through it's process of splash screen then service screen just as it would with no disc in the drive

The LED is solid green before service screen where it changes to flashing green and red. I'll assume I have deleted the xboxdash.xbe as it will not boot to it. I don't seen an error number? It just says 'service required. call customer support'

Xbox ver 1. doesn't give any error no. Head for the hotswapping tutorial.

I don't know if this really works, but it worked for me. If you have the splinter cell exploit installed and the game save still on your hard drive, if you boot your xbox up with the eject button it should pop up the installer menu  happy.gif

Ok thanks, I will try that tomorrow as I've put everything back together now.

In response to your earlier suggestion, I've just tried Frostys on a DVD-R...and no luck lol

Back to me, i downloaded xplorer360 and connected xbox hard drive to pc and just used xplorer360 to copy the copy of xboxdash.xbe i had in another folder on the drive back to "c" and reconnected it all up and it works again. quick run down of what i done, although you may already no this, but hey.
Put xplorer360 on pc i was going to use, then shut it down.
unplug ide 1 from pc hard drive (also remove anything on secondery connection).
unplugged ide 2 from pc dvd drive (also remove anything on secondery connection).
plugged ide 2 primary connector into pc hard drive.
got ide 1 primary connection out of computer so as it could reach xbox.
boot computer, and hit pause/break on key board just as it goes into memory check and before it goes into hard drive detection.
boot xbox (did not disconnect dvd drive) jsut as it's about to go to error screen pull ide cable out of xbox hard drive, you will just have to judge it.
connect pc ide 1 primary connection to xbox hard drive (leave xbox power cable on xbox hard drive and DO NOT TURN XBOX OF UNTIL THIS IS ALL DONE AND YOU RECONNECT THE HARD DRIVE BACK TO THE XBOX IDE CABLE) once coonected hit space bar on keyboard to get computer to finish booting, this may take a bit of time 1-2 min then it should boot windows and maybe tell you it's found new hard are and install the drive.
then just open xplorer360 and browse the drive and replace your file unplug the drive reconnect the xbox ide cable then turn off the xbox. And when you turn it back on it should work.

Hope i am not trying to teach an old dog old tricks, just thought i would add my 2p, feel free not to do any of the above until you run it by an expert on here.

Hope you don't mind me adding something after my recent exploits with an xbox.
I changed xboxdash.xbe to msdash.xbe, why, don't ask. Result xbox would not boot error 16 anyway after a day and a half trying disks and ftp i done the following and i assume this will only work if a: you have a copy of your xboxdash.xbe on a pc or on the xbox hard drive.

But first have you tried Joes2silly explanation as i read about that on another forum after i got mine fixed where someone had done the same thing and i think they just picked "install softmod"

Yeah I tried Joes2silly suggestion, I'm pretty sure I no longer have the SC gamesave on my HDD so unfortunatly that didn't work

Thanks for the tips, I'm going to go through this all in a bit and give hotswapping another go. I do have one problem though, I only have 1 IDE connection on my motherboard, so the PC DVD Drive and the HDD Hard Drive will have to run off the same IDE Cable (PC DVD drive it set to slave atm) - is this a likely cause of problems?
