Neither Softmod Method Seems To Work
« on: February 03, 2008, 04:36:00 PM »

hi guys,

i'm a n00b when it comes to softmodding an XBOX, i had a softmodded XBOX already but it wasn't done by me, although i've later installed a bigger HDD on it.

but to make it straight, i've never had tried to softmod an XBOX before, here's what i'm doing:

1. transfering a Splinter Cell gamesave exploit into my action replay memory card from the computer
2. tranfering the gamesave from the memory card to the XBOX HDD though MS Dash Memory section
3. boot original splinter cell game and load the exploit
4. successfully backup eeprom and C Drive
5. successfully install softmod (apparently)
6. shutdown xbox
7. eject the game and turn off again
8. turn on the xbox without any game to see if softmod was successful but i get error 13

i've tried this with several packages SID, UXE, Ndure, various versions from each, one of them got me to error 21 instead of 13 (i think it was UXE).

with all of them i was able to restore the C Drive and boot MS Dash again, but it has been a stressful weekend of trial and error with my XBOX and reading posts, and always the same result  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

it's a PAL 1.6 XBOX, Dash version 1.00.5960.01, Kernel: 1.00.5838.01

i guess these are the latest Dash/Kernel versions which are required by most gamesave exploit packages i used.

please show a light to this poor man  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ohmy.gif)

Are you using Krazie's Ndure 1.1.1?

after more reading, i found this http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=262740

maybe this is the problem

it's says that 1.6 XBOX's don't accept un-official memory cards, and i'm using an Action Replay one, but i manage to transfer the gamesave files from the AR memory card to my Xbox HDD, and load the gamesave exploit and install the softmod, my problem is later.

will that have anything to do with me using an AR memory card instead of a XBOX official memory card? should i buy one?

Instead og shutting down the xbox, turning it back on to get the disk out and shutting it back down, just hit the Eject button once the xbox shut down. And let it load fully.

problem solved,

my xbox had to be manually softmodded through FTP because no installer managed to softmod it properly, a geezer helped me doing it, thank god, as it is very hard to softmod this way

Glad the problem is solved!

But do you know what the problem was? (as I'm going to softmod a friends xbox this way)
Was it the 1.6 issue?

Cheers
