I have the same issue on a hard-modded box with no luck resolving it.  Anyone have any ideas?

Same thing here...the MAC address changes the last two characters every time I restart my XBOX....I use static IP's where I can, so this is a little maddening!  If it is as simple as reflashing my EEPROM, please let us know.  Is the MAC address kept on the modchip, or the motherboard if you have an Xecuter 3ce installed?

The normal xbox bios gets it's MAC address from the eeprom.

Some modchip biosses are designed to work without the eeprom. In that case, the MAC address is somewhere calculated in the modchip bios itself. They might change it every time to avoid conflicts with other xboxes on the network having the same bios running. If you would store the mac address fixed in the bios, 2 xboxes with the same bios would conflict to each other on the network. If you randomly generate the 2 last numbers, there is only a 1 on 65536 possibility to have troubles with that.

Some softmods use a virtual eeprom which is a file on the harddisk storing the same information as found in the xbox eeprom. This might cause the MAC address to change as well when the MAC address of that file doesn't match the MAC address in the eeprom.

There is a liveinfo beta 3 program for windows that can analyse the contents of the xbox eeprom. It might give you an idea if the bios gets it's MAC address from there.

It might be interesting to see if the original xbox bios also has problems to keep it's MAC fixed. You should try things out a couple of times with the mod disabled.

I asume you guys are all having troubles with the MAC address and not with the actual IP address the xbox receives during bootup. If it gets that one from a DHCP server, it can be different every time.

regards.

Luckily, the IP resolves every time, the only problem lies in the fact that it seems to change every time the MAC changes because my router doesn't drop the old MAC/IP combo so it sees it as a new connection from a different XBOX.  Since I'm using XBMC, I'll also try and see if I can set a static IP from it instead.  The only problem there lies i the fact that when I do that, I don't get an internet connection.  Proxy connection maybe?

Maybe it's a setting in your router that blocks internet if you use a fixed ip adress. I see no other possible reason why the dhcp clients should have access, and the fixed ip shouldn't have access. Most routers have settings to allow / deny access to the internet from an ip range.

Sorry, I just found another reason. You probably need to set your DNS servers manually as well before your xbox will get access to the internet. You can find those adresses if you open a command prompt on your pc and type ipconfig /ALL. You can also find them on one of the router setting webpages.

Also don't forget to set the default gateway to your routers ip adress.
