Softmod Recovery Help
« on: October 28, 2007, 01:03:00 PM »

So I was already running XBMC on my xbox and I decided to re-do the whole think from scratch with the T3CH stuff which looked like a nicer build than I had.  So I "Un-did" softmod using my backup and started again. That part worked great. I downloaded the newer softmod software (Sofmod Installer Deluxe v2.0) and used the Splinter cell exploit again.

This is where my problem happened. I backed up my eeprom and my dashboard but the softmod was giving me an error (error code 0). at first I thought it was because I had a full hardrive, so like a big idiot I deleted my eeprom and dashboard backup hoping to save space and tried again. It still didn't work. I now get an error 13 at startup (since I have no dashboard) and I don't know how to get a new version of the softmod on my Xbox HD since I have no dashboard.

So I am not complete idiot, I do still have a backup on my PC of my eeprom and dashboard but I just can't FTP in and put the stuff on there. It will still boot games and I can get back into the exploit, I just can't get the darn thing to run the softmod (I may have a corrupt game save??).

I was planning on just wiping the drive and starting over but I am not sure what software to use. I read that XBoxHD is the software I should use but I also heard something about an "Xbox Recovery disk" which I looked for and could not find (maybe it isn't called that). Anyhow I saw the youtube video on how to wipe a disk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07MSbQPYhFc) and this is where I heard about it.

what should I do to fix this problem? I sure do miss my XBMC (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

can you run homebrew or a backup game?

I recommend you to use Krayzies Ndure1.1 for your softmod

If you can run homebrew, Krayzies Package has a emergency disk that should do the trick for you

If you cant(as I suppose, because you wiped your C: partition) your only way would be XBOXHDM, cuz you have the eeprom backup this should be no problem:

firs of all. Read XBOXHDM readme, so you know what are you doing.

1_in XBOXHDM menu select option 3: boot linux with unlock tools.
2_then when loaded(should not take too long) type unlockhd -a.
3_reboot to xboxhdm and select option 1(dont remember the name).
4_when loaded type xboxhd.
    another menu shold load.
5_just select the rebuild C: partition option, and wait.
6_when done, reboot to xboxhdm and select option 3 again, but tis time type lockhd -a
7_poweroff, put the hard drive back to your box, and happy softmoding(again, use krayzie's Ndure)

Tip: Put Krayzie's gamesave files on the E: folder of XBOXHDM and after rebuilding the C: partition you can rebuild the E: (or do both in the same option, can't remember) but if you have some data you dont want to lose, just type 8 in the menu after rebuilding the C: partition and should be back in command prompt, just type xbrowser and transfer the files from the E: folder from the CD-ROM to the E: partition on the disk(remeber to erase the old gamesaves for splinter cell, and transfer the new ones.)

post back your results

cheers.

why not just replace the dashboard files in E Parition rather then doing the whole softmod over? would have been alot easier

You need to rebuild the HD with the PC like suggested.

If you don't have the C drive files you can get them from a Slayer's disk. Like stated before, get a copy of Krazie's Ndure and put it on the E drive before you build the HD.

If you can't build a CD with Xboxhdm, here is a video tutorial on hotswapping. I am not an advocate of hotswapping, but it is a good last resort tool.

In the future, any changes to your dashboard, or other apps on the Xbox don't require a re-softmod. You just FTP the files to the Xbox and reboot.

He can't FTP the files over right now since his Xbox is broken. I was referring to a functional Xbox.

He either needs to hotswap to get the files on or build a CD with Xboxhdm to fix it.
