i know it sounds rediculous, but my modchip is randomly not working sometimes it dosent boot.
so i have ftp the game save to soft mod it, since the chip is messing up, and was wondering since the modchip sometimes boots can i just load the softmod menu by locating the softmod menu on my hard drive and booting it somehow? or is the softmod menu not a .xbe? and cant be booted without one of the games to load the save?

You can navigate to E:\UDATA\, then the save folder and find the first default.xbe and launch it. You MUST have a stock C drive though.

In your case, you'd be better off using NDure for PC and simply FTP the files over rather than XboxHDM.

a stock c drive?? how come i cant do it with my current c drive?

ftp what files?? i already have the softmod save folder on my xbox, but was wondering if i could just launch it and do the softmod.
is there anyway i can go back to my stock c drive with the chip and do the softmod???
ohh and my hdd will work right cus i uprgrade to a 200 gb.

If you don't care about xbox live, simply:

find your stock ms kernel version
download and run ndure installer for PC
select the appropriate kernel version in setup...finish setup
FTP to your xbox.
Delete everything on C
FTP all the files the ndure installer made to C, E

thankkkk you very much thats exactly what i wanted to know
when i installed the chip the first think i did is back up the retail kernal (ms dash)
so i choose that one and see wath version it is?

My situation is very similar to orochi man's except I do care about the dual boot xbox live thing. The only reason is, I want to be able to be able to switch between widescreen and 4:3 and have the setting written to the eeprom chip.

(by the way, I tried putting a copy of my eeprom.bin file in the shadowc folder but that doesn't seem to do anything)

ok, So I installed the ndure 3.1 contents to a folder on my PC and then FTP'ed the ndure C and E folders over to the xbox after deleting the the xbox C and E contents. Then I copied the content of my E:\backup to the virtual C

When I boot the xbox using the power button everything is fine but when I boot the XBL dash using the eject button, I get an error 21.

What does the xboxhdm ndure CD installer do that FTP'ing doesn't?

Drive was locked or else I'd be getting an error 5 instead of 21 plus the xbox wouldn't be "booting fine when using the power button".

I ended up just making the CD and running xboxhdm and that works fine, I was just wondering why the XBL dual boot doesn't work if you just FTP everything over instead of running the xboxhdm ndure CD.

My wild guess is that xboxhdm resigns something while coping over the files to the xbox hdd. but that's just a wild guess.

I'm guessing Movax knows the answer and was hoping he could explain it to me.

it does, if you FTP to the real C:\ (disable the shadowC first)

OK, I finally found out what I was doing wrong.

I didn't know I had to patch my clean C folder files as explained in the "Ndure Installer 3.1.pdf" file.

That explains my earlier question which was, what is the xboxhdm ndure CD doing that FTP'ing isn't.

So for anyone else in the same situation...

1. Create a "new folder" somewhere on your PC
2. Place your clean xbox C folder in that "new folder"
3. Install ndure 3.1 to "new folder" with the settings just the way you want them
4. launch E:\ndts\default.xbe (ndure toolset)
5. Delete the real C and E contents (except E:\backup)
6. FTP "new folder" C+E over to the real C and E
7. Reboot xbox, then copy E:\backup contents to empty virtual C

you can skip that step
if you keep a filled copy of the shadowC.img file on your PC and use it...
