I've been lucky enough to get my hands on a factory sealed Xbox that is is mint condition. So naturally, when I attempt to mod it I'd like to do so without totally screwing it up.

I have soft-modded an Xbox once before and didn't have any problems. I used the Splinter Cell/Action Replay game save exploit.

However, being that this was some time ago I needed to read up on how things worked. And now I'm finding that the method I used previously is outdated and considered obsolete (IE: problems with fonts and glitches where your hard drive gets stuck in a loop).

Reading through the threads I'm having trouble finding what is considered the definitive (and easiest) method of soft modding (since an actual mod chip is not an option for me). I'd like to use a similar method as the Splinter Cell/Action Replay since it was so easy, however, FUNCTIONALITY is the most important to me. I plan to run XBMC once things are set up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Just grab "Krayzies Ndure v1.1" (and the v1.1.1 update kit). Then just follow the readme and the onscreen instructions included.

Then you can just replace your booting dash with XBMC once the softmod is installed. Dash location is "E:\dashboard\" and just dump the XBMC files into that folder and make sure to name the .xbe to "default.xbe". Even if you screw that up it will boot a recovery dash where you could use a boot disc to FTP in and fix (can't remember if you HAVE to use a boot disc, you might be able to FTP directly to the recovery dash).

There are also a few other ways of changing it as well (XBMC shortcut, using Krayzies tools to copy the new dash and test it, autoinstallers, etc.)

I'm not to worried about getting XBMC set up. It was actually fairly simple the last time I tried it.

Do I use Ndure with the update kit the same way I installed my last soft-mod, with an Action Replay/Game Save technique?
