Which Soft Mod Method Should I Use?

Both methods will work in the end for what you're trying to do, but unless you're in a rush and can't wait for Mechassault to arrive, I would go with the gamesave exploit. Hotswapping can be a pain in the ass if you've never done it before, and adds unnecessary risk to the procedure.

If you're going to wait, check out Krayzies NDure 1.1.  It's the best when using a gamesave exploit. Just read the installation instructions very thouroughly and make sure you backup your eeprom.bin file 1st thing to a safe place and you'll be good to go.

Hi guys, just to let you know. I just had confirmation (yes thats right, this late at night :@) that I will not be receiving my much needed memory card and thus, I will be attempting the second method of soft modding.

At the moment I know what needs doing kind of but really haven't grasped the concept just yet so if anyone can clear things up from beggining to end for me that would be brilliant.

A tutorial or just some personal tips would be fantastic.

Thanks for all the support!!

I don't know too much about the hotswapping method since I've only done it a couple of times, but basically you boot the Xbox, and pull the IDE cable when the HDD is "unlocked" (I use quotes because technically it is still locked...basically you're doing the hotswap right after the lock code has fed to the drive and the drive gives teh xbox access to it), then connect the drive (still powered by the Xbox) to your PC (which should be at XboxHDM's bootloader menu). The best time do it is when the "Microsoft" logo is at the bottom of the screen...but in some cases that doesn't give you enough time (I was trying to fix an error 16 Xbox and wasn't able to catch the M$ logo...so I ended up turning off the TV and just listening to the HDD for when to swap...got it the first try with that method).

After you've done that...you just use XboxHDM as usual, as per the tutorial you just posted.

OK, so, I have read tutorial upon tutorial each with their own methods and I am sure I know what to do other than a few little things.

So, I boot my PC and xbox at the same time, pc loads HDM and xbox goes to the microsoft screen, I then unplug my loose IDE cable and replace it with my free primary IDE cable (doesn't sound like I have much time to do that but i'm sure I will manage). When exactly do I connect my pc power cable to the hard drive?
Does the hard drive unlock on the microsoft white text screen and then when i remove the ide cable, stay unlocked? If so then I can take a little time putting in the pc IDE cable right? (quicker than 10mins of course).

Thanks for clearing things up. Once a reply is made I will do the hot swap and let you all know how it goes!

You leave it plugged into the Xbox's power. And IDE into the PC.

Sorry can you be more specific?

Do you mean before I turn the xbox or pc on I have the power cable already in the xbox hard drive and then once pc and xbox are on i simply switch IDE cables?

Thanks

P.S. Do you know about whether the hard drive stays locked once IDE cable is removed etc...?

From Daddy's tutorial:   "Ok boot the PC before the Xbox or at the same time, the xbox takes around 8 seconds to reach the part where the White M$ logo appears at the bottom of the screen, at this point the HD will click a few times, At this exact point, swap the XBOX IDE cable, with the PC IDE cable."

The xbox HD will stay unlocked until it is powered down.
