1.6 Xbox Softmodded Error 16 (no Dashboard Error)
« on: April 07, 2007, 07:47:00 PM »

hi guys

i know that default xbox bios boots 1st to the dvdrom drive then to the C to find a bootable dashboard.

i softmodded a 1.6 xbox last year with auto installer deluxe. it been a great xbox and has never has any issues.

the other day somebody, somehow deleted the contents of the C drive and now the xbox boots to error 16.

when i installed the softmod i left the softmod installer on E so that anytime a problem occurred i could boot my 007auf disc and load the savegame and restore the softmod.

well to my suprise the xbox seems to boot straight past booting the disc and quickly displays error 16.

i have unhooked the hdd and forced an error 09 just to get the xbox to reproduce something other that error 16. then i re-plugged the hdd back in and tried to boot from 007auf and still this xbox seems to only look to see if the dashboard is there or not and nothing else.

is there anyway to force this xbox to boot my game disc b4 looking for a dashboard?

Thx for any help added.

I usually use my Chipped box to boot the EvoX to start a Auto Install Disc.

Id assume that would be a way for you to replace everything on the C: Drive, leaving everything on your E: Drive well alone.

I dont think FTP is an option as there is now no Dash to give you a network connection.

Is the 007 Disc an original?  ph34r.gif

Ofcouse dude!

Anyone know if turning the error 16 xbox on till it boots to error, then unhook its ide cable from the hdd and while still getting power from its own xbox, take it and hotswap it to the ide of my other xbox that would also be powered up and booted to my auto installed deluxe disc. that xbox is modded and if the hot swap will work i could restore the dash and softmod then hotswap both drives back to original ide's and reboot both xboxes.

i think that would work. do any of you guys? how long after error 16 is displayed will the hdd timeout?

thx and again please help if you can i dont wanna murder this nice xbox

Have u left your xbox unplugged for more than 4 hours since this has happened? If u have then it will always try to find the clock and bypass the disk. Since the dash is gone the clock wont show up and your screwed....I don't know how to fix the clock problem, but if u have left it unplugged for more than 4 hours that is your problem. Look around for tuts for trying to fix it

thx man, thats probably not the issue because once the C drive was whiped clean the font files where the clock reboot loop bug resides would have been also deleted and the clock problem would no longer be in issue

Thats what im saying man, the xbox itself wants to set the clock not the dash.  Once it looks for the files on HDD it will give u error cuz it cant fine it.

Look,

Unplug the HDD, Plug It In YOUR PC. Crack The HDD's unlock Key(useual place), Copy The Files For The Dash (Check The USEUAL Place). Then Lock It Up Again, And VIOLA You Saved The Xbox.

Edit:

That Tool Will Be The XBOX HDD Maker

Ijust tried that and I am still getting error 16, my console is a version 1.6 and I am using the original 4920 msdash files in my xboxhdm disc.

Are you using the backed up M$ dash and eeprom from your xbox in xboxhdm?

Crack The HDD's unlock Key(useual place),  you say crack it as if there is an app that will sniff out and find the password without the eeprom.bin? if so please tell the name of the app so me and this other guy both with the same issue aint running around in the (useual place) downloading every single app in the dirrectory. thanks again for all you guys trying to help us.

i dont have a eeprom.bin, i do have a 1.6 that was softmodded a year ago with AID2.0 (no virtual setups). softmod and dash all booted from C. a 10year old girl deleted the whole C drive. then held onto it for over a week b4 giving it to me.

is there anyway to save this girls xbox. boots error 16 and will not boot games from dvdrom

Hotswap the HDD to either your PC or your other XBOX.

And for the record there is no app that can just break the HDD key, you HAVE to have an eeprom backup to get the HDD key, no way around it.

Only other option you have is to install a chip.

Since your booting e16 you will not be able to boot a disc, even your originals, so no point in trying AID or any autoinstallers or 007 again.  wink.gif

You should just buy a Duox2, cheap and it will fix your problem  biggrin.gif

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
