I think everything looks great except you should use screenshots from Krayzies Installer instead of those. Looks kinda confusing if you see a different screen (even if only slightly different). I can get some screenshots for you tonight if you need.  smile.gif

"This will start the auto installer" I would change that to "softmod installer" to avoid confusing n00bs with AutoInstallers like Slayers and AID.

"If your dashboard is not ver. 59260, it will give you an error." Should be "5960"

Might put a note that when you copy the gamesave you need to hit right on the D-Pad to get to the copy options (common n00b problem of not hitting that and can't figure out how to copy the save onto the HDD).

Also might note that when you select "create eeprom backup" that you also need to select "backup eeprom" when you boot to the black menu (evox menu) (this is another common n00b problem as they only hit the first "backup eeprom" and then select "back to menu" without hitting it in the Evox menu).

Don't take that wrong, you did a great job, just pointing out a few things you could change/elaborate more on.  wink.gif

Your lines about dumping the eeprom to a file on the Xbox HDD via the installer is fine and dandy, but let's not forget it'll do you no good if you just leave it there.

Backing up the eeprom (is in, backing it up to your PC, not just creating the file on your box's HDD) is the single most important thing that new softmodders need to be told, and told, and told.

There are a few other people attempting noob softmod guides at this time (must be in season.. almost spring, or something) and this is far too ofen overlooked.

(Quick edit: Members only have a 15 minute post edit window on these forums so you'll need to change your images at the source or contact staff and ask them to do it for you)

It, tells beginners what to do, but to make this to a Really helpful Tutorial to noobs, then explaining how to make XBMC the main dash would make it better.

Apart from that, pretty decent tutorial!

EDIT: It's worth to mention, that the Memory card that comes with AR are really sucky and can sometimes corrupt the softmod saved on it, resulting in a #21 Error message. (As it did to me)

So, buying an offical one is the way to go, but you may want to explain on how to use USBview to edit the Action Replay driver to work with the offical memory card

I just think it makes a lot of sense to make a tutorial on all these topics rather then having seperate ones.

Just Pm me if you want to make a Tutorial covering all these Topics.

Sometimes corrupt?  More frequent than that, I'm afraid.

And to the OP, no, it's not a bad tut.  It just lacks some important key information.  Most all tutorials written recently by those newer to the hobby tend to be that way, no offense.  It's just that experience breeds knowledge, and practice eschews error.  But an honest effort, even if a bit rough, is nice.

XBMC is a MUST on the try list.

If you want, you can just PM me the finished stuff and I'll edit it into the original post when I get a chance.

good tutorial.  A few things I would change would be: actual pictures of Krayzies Installer (not SID), a small pic/tut of how to make a USB cable with the controller dongle to use instead of Action Replay (who wants to spend more than needed?), definately express how important backing up the eeprom to the pc is.
To really make a great tutorial, add the ability to install a larger HDD using xboxhdm.

When I was learning all this stuff, I had to use like 5 different tutorials to acomplish one thing.  Having it all in one would be nice.

Keep up the good work.

I'm a newb, I just bought an AR to do this mod.  I don't own any other memory cards...
Shouldn't there be some way to test my memory card, prior to finding out that the AR card is just a POS?

Or - maybe it's no big deal... what happens if it turns out that the AR card IS a POS, and I'm in the process...   blink.gif

I'm not far from an EB Games, could buy a used memory card.  Or a new one at the Blockbuster at my corner... but that seems like a waste if my AR card is a good one.

So - can I test it?

I dont know what POS means, but, from what I understand, I think you're asking if theres a way you can find out if your AR card will corrupt saves? All of the memcards are the same. I didnt have a problem with corrupt saves, but it does happen. Im in the process of making a tut on how to make your own memcard with a USB flash drive and AR. Should be done by Tuesday...

It means Piece Of Shit.

And all memory cards are NOT the same.  Haven't been since the Sega Saturn.  Ask all those who lost saves for Working Designs games to crappy third party cards.

Sometimes they'll work alright, and if they do, good for you.  But do not be suprised when 9 out of 10 times they don't. No way to know except to try and watch for the impossible-to-miss error.

Might consider spelling cereal's name correctly... and host images yourself (or via XS uploads) so you don't get the errors you currently are (and trim the space-wasting padding around the UnleashX logo, etc. etc. etc....).

lol, ok... I dont think you could swap your hdd with his without changing the eeprom. And, I have a PC tool that came with AID 3.0 "Live Info". I think it could help you alter your eeprom. I would reccomend just doing the softmod with the memory card and an exploitable game thouh... Its alot less trouble.
