i have a modded xbox and was curious would it work if I swapped harddrives.

Won't work.  You'll get an error 06 as the Xbox won't be able to unlock the HDD, hence not bootable.

QUOTE
That way i can ftp the files over and use a back up splinter cell.

Softmodding using a backup of an exploitable game is impossible (or at best counter-intuitive).

What's more, if you had FTP access it would mean that Xbox\HDD was already modded (no mod, no unsigned code running FTP server) which would negate the need to do any modding, etc...

QUOTE
Just curious and how do you back up an eeprom on the pc?

You can back it up *TO* your PC by dumping to the Xbox HDD using either Evox or ConfigMagic, then FTPing the dumped file to your computer.

1. When you reboot the xbox will be fine. It only error 21s when it can't read the save and doesn't affect anything though.

2. There are alot of different ways to install XBMC. Since not everyone's dash boots from the same spot it's not always the same when installing it. The XBMC package also comes with a shortcut file that can be used, I've never used it so I can't offer much info on that.

Even with Krayzies there are several ways you could install XBMC. You could just FTP the files into E:\dashboard. You could use Krayzies Extras to load the dash and even test it before installing it (probably the safest way to do it). You could put XBMC in a different spot and use a shortcut to boot it. You could install it using CASH. And probably a few other ways I'm not thinking of.

Hopefully tnine will create an XBMC addon tutorial for you and maybe cover a few ways to do it.

Again, great job on the tutorial tnine  smile.gif

Thanks for the questions! Okay, XBMC, is made by the XBMC team. The T3CH builds, are unnoficial builds of XBMC (but the most up to date). A developer named T3CH made that version. And Im guessing a dev named svn made the svn releases. The file size difference is probably the loss of skins/sounds, as the svn releases are fairly new. Im not positive about the FAT, and SLIM builds of T3CH, but its probably a loss of skins/feature (?). Im using the T3CH release though. I Hope I was helpful! biggrin.gif

SVN = Subversion,  the replacement for CVS (Concurrent Versions System) which the XBMC boys used for code revision.

Slim and Fat are builds of the 2.0.1 stable release (last November).  SVN builds are up to the minute, built straight from the current SVN repository.

Slim: http://t3ch.xil.us/R..._1st.php?y=slim
Fat: http://t3ch.xil.us/R...E_1st.php?y=fat

And T3CH's not a dev.  Not under that pseudonym, at least. wink.gif

hi again,

just thought i'd drop in a reply and say i softmodded my xbox with no problems and everything's running fine (yay), i guess it wasn't that hard, and with the help from this thread, it was a damn side easier than having to rely on the other half-baked/aged tutes out there, thanks again!  biggrin.gif

one thing i can confirm though regards the use of USB flash drives as a memory unit... in the instructions it talks about copying the datelinfo.xbx file and all that, which i can confirm is unnecessary, and does not work in the new releases of the ndure 007 exploit (at least the one i downloaded from xbins at the end of feb).

the gamesave exploit i had only contained ONE folder when unzipped (one folder which makes the game crash, and also had the evox files in it), and seeing that this didn't correlate to the instructions i skipped over that part and just copied it over to the usb flash drive, and that worked flawlessly.

so the bit saying "Note: GAME SAVE OR .XBE EXPLOIT FROM XBINS IS NOT ACTION REPLAY SOFTWARE READY, AND YOU MUST PUT THE DATELINFO.XBX FILES INTO THE APPROPRIATE DIRECTORIES!!!!" is not (at least not anymore!) true, because i did it less than a week ago without those steps.

hope that can help clear up a couple of steps for other noobs smile.gif

one more quick question i have regards updating xbmc... updating the skin seems easy enough, what about xbmc itself? i read somewhere that overwriting the files  is fine, and another place saying it was bad... anyone care to help? especially if xbmc is running at the time of overwriting, is that safe?  huh.gif

also, how do you boot back into the evox dash (even if just temporarily?) i used the recommended way to install xbmc through krayzie's extras and then the replace dashboard function... is there a way to temporarily boot to evox?

cheers, hope this slowly helps to identify a few more small areas that can be of help smile.gif

Noob Here

First off I've gotta say this is the best manual I have read. I've looked at loads of sites and watched loads of videos on youtube but this is the most up to date and includes everthing that needs to be done.

Having successfully modded my xbox using the method set out here I now want to run XBMC. Since everything is going so well I do not want to install this as a dash but as an application (less risky I feel). I currently have evox and am transfering files to my xbox using a DVD-rw and not ftp. Is it possible to copy over the files using a DVR-rw and run XBMC as an application? I've downloaded the latest XBMC from Xbins but have not modified the files in any way. I would be extremely greatful for any info on how to get XBMC working and also any comments about running it as an app as opposed to a dash

very simple, make a folder in your apps dir IE: E:\APPS\XBMC and put all the files from the XBMC folder not the root folder of the package you DL'ed it will have the default.xbe and other folders.
reboot and evox will pick it up (if evox is setup correctly)
