Hello all,

My cuz has a V1.4 Box with the splinter cell softmod installed on it. One day he got some error about his E:. He ignored, now the box started locking up and started booting into an error.

Before we did anything I overwrote his C: and E: with mine, same exploit. Kinda worked but was ver slow and was locking suspected that the HDD might be going bad.

Long story short, we reformatted the HDD and then did a Western Digital (WD320) disk check and wrote zeros to the drive incase that was the issue. Once I did that I installed his drive into a Hard Modded box and tried to redo the drive.

I was able to take the C: and E: off my other softmodded xbox, same version and I FTP them over to the problem Boxes HDD. I was able to get all the partitions restored and all seemed great. I then relocked the drive and tried to boot it, error 21. It won't try to boot off of disc, burned or retail. Just FRAG and error 21. So now I am kinda stuck, I did everything that I could find and still get the same error. I am going to try to restore to factory default dash and go from there, could the board be going bad?

Any Ideas would be great.

I restored the X-Box to orginal dashboard. Still error 21, still no boot from disc. No boot from retail game. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sleeping.gif)

since you have ftped all the stuff off the softmodded xbox just use the eeprom and build a new hard drive using xbox hdm either use your backup C or use M$ original files and softmod it again

I did redo that WD320, I tested it and there is no problem with the drive so replacing the drive isn't going to help me.

Anyother ideas?

Okay well I figured I'd try again, tried to restore with all orginal files and still error 21 and no boot from any media, I then did the softmod restore (files from other system) and still error 21 no boot from any media. Either the board is messed or I need to install a modchip to resolve issue.

No One else has any ideas why a good box would just go bad?

I used to get error 21's because of FTP replacing the spaces with underscores, e.g. "Xbox Book.xtf" got renamed to "Xbox_book.xtf"... have a look with your modded box and see if something similar has happened.

Well come to find out the motherboard has some bad caps, might have fried something else. We decided to go with a different board and mod-chip.
